I recently bought the ASUS DVD-R/RW (DRW-0402P). I've already burned a backup of my "Perfect Storm" DVD without any probs using "DVD Decrypter" and "DVD Shrink". My problem is that the drive doesn't seem to recognise CD-RW. I've tried formatting using Nero InCD 3.51.80 and get the message that "a supported media is not inserted" and also tried to burn some files through Nero 5.5 and this also won't recognise the disks. I've tried both Memorex 16x-24x 700MB disks and an older HP CD-RW without success. I've also flashed the latest firmware off the ASUS website and have now run out of options. Am I doing something wrong or missing something simple??? I usually do! Thanks in advance.
Thanks for the advice. I've tried all three ASPI loading methods on the link, but still no success. Adaptec ASPI installation verification tells me all is working fine. ASPI32.SYS 4.6 (1021) WOWPOST.EXE 4.6 (1021) WINASPI.DLL 4.6 (1021) WNASPI32.DLL 4.5.7 (1008) Don't know what all that means but maybe it'll help pinpoint the problem.
Bingo... all your ASPI versions are not the same -- hence your ASPI aint installed properly. For more information regarding ASPI see http://cd-rw.org/articles/archive/aspisetup.cfm
Thanks again for your help Praetor. I am still struggling to get the drive to recognise the media though. I've updated to InCD 4.0.5.6 and changed the ASPI as per the link. The ASPI check now reads: ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2 WOWPOST.EXE 4.6 (1021) WINASPI.DLL 4.6 (1021) WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2 and I get the message "ASPI is properly installed and fully operational" Also using the Nero Info Tool is tells me that CD-RW is functional. If the various versions are still a problem how do I overcome this (The link does not explain this) I feel I'm falling deeper into a hoooooole. Again I appreciate the help and apologise for the typing errors but I have a couple of days off work and have just returned from the pub Paul
