Further investigation from my previous problem has revealed my driver has changed to read only does anybody know what could have caused this and can it be rectified.Any help would be much appreciated.

I was hoping it wouldnt be that!
Initially it was only recognising certain discs, i could play some dvds but not others (whether shop bought or ones previously burnt with the same drive) then it stopped recognising all blank dvd-r and when i checked disc info on nero it would say no disc inserted! I can however burn to dvd+rw and the drive has no trouble reading them. But when i looked up the book type of my drive it said dvd rom whereas in my computer it states that its a DVD-RW DRIVE so im even more confused. Ive upgraded the firmware and checked everything i can think of but to no avail.
The disc drive is Lite-On SOHW 832S VSOM.
I would appreciate any help you can offer!!

I remember your posts from before now. I think I tried to help at one point.

If the problems are getting worse, then it's the drive itself. I think it's time to invest in a new one.

I would recommend the BenQ DW1650. It's an excellent burner at a resonable price. Here's a link you can check out.

    Beige for $33.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101011

    Black for $35.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827101010

Newegg is a good company. I have bought from them many, many times. I highly recommend them.

Did you go through device manager under cd-rom/dvd rom drives and unistall your drivers for that dvd-rw drive then reboot?

I've got 1 pc that does a very similar thing, and it looks like it turns that Benq 1620 into a cd-rw drive.

Uninstalling the drivers and rebooting fixed it all 3 or 4 times that it did it. It only does it using dvd decrypter's ISO read and write mode.

    start/control panel/system check-Icon with monitor with checkmark/hardware/device manager.

Then you'll see the tree to locate cd-rom-dvd drives/primary/secondary controllers/etc.

OR, right click on My Computer > Select Properties. Then click on the Hardware tab. Device Manager is the top button.
