What version of Nero do you have installed, although i presume it will work whenever you have been using the Pioneer. What posessed you to buy the Sony whever you have had success with the Pioneer 105?

It could be a faulty burner. One way to find out is to download (Click here)---> DVD Shrink and see if you get the same problems. Also, remember not to use the same media each time you test. Try different media, Sony are very fussy about cheap media, thats why i wouldnt recommend it. If you have the ability to leave it back and change it to a Pioneer, you will be very satisfied, as you well know!
Who needs +/- anyway? The future is probably going to be a diffrent systm all together, i wouldnt worry bout it. Why not wait for the 8x Pioneer DVR107 (+/-) when it comes out in december and buy a second hand 103?

I just bought a 510A and have not used it yet, but had to upgrade Nero and Sony has new firmware onsite for the 510A. Go here for it.

Screw Nero. Apparently the Sony's have probs when Nero is the burning app. Try using Record Now Max instead.

It is not the burner IMHO, it is the software.
I started having really bad burns (on a sony dru 500AX firmware 2.0f) with the discs getting so screwed up that the drive could no longer read/access it, thus these discs were no longer re-writeable. These puzzling incidents came after successfully burning about sixty Memorex DVD+RWs. I Went through about ten of these before I decided to get a copy of Record Now max and now the burner has had no more probs burning onto the same Memorex DVD+RWs.

Not the burner, it is the app. Either that or it is the firmware. If I were you stick with the firmware the drive it comes with.

I have a Dru-510a with firmware 1.0b and i have been burning for over 2 weeks now..with out any coasters.

I use Decrypter. Alcohol 120% or daemon tools to load the image...Then I use Elby CloneDVD to in place of DVD 2 one. Works great..

I agree with Tosca.. Neroburn just doesn't like my Sony DVD burner.. I use Roxio's Easy CD & DVD Creatorâ„¢ 5 and haven't made a coster since..

When using CD-R I loved Nero but DVD's it just sucks. A lot of the times I just get an error before the record even starts saying something like the files aren't compatable..

I use DVDShrink then Roxio and have backup 30+ out of my 80 DVDs..
