Anyone have any experience with this burner? I am about to buy a DVDR and I wanted to see if this one is worth buying. If not, what do you suggest? I was told to go with Sony or Pioneer.

actually, THIS is a rebadged Liteon SOHW-1693S~ :) my advice to you would be to get the Liteon that i just mentioned above as it is the EXACT same drive as this higher priced Sony dru-800a~ :)

i have 2 Sony drives myself, but, they are BOTH in fact...rebadged Liteons :) and i ALSO have this one...it is a steady, good drive, booktype capable as well using Liteon's bitsetting utility~ :)

i also have a pioneer, the dvr-109 actually, it is my FASTEST drive out of the 6 that i own..but, using OFFICIAL firmware you WILL NOT be able to booktype (change the dvd+r media to dvd-rom for highest compatiblitity w/ stand alone players) on the pioneers...you will need to use modified firmware for that feat...

good luck...this Sony you mentioned is a good burner, but, for almost 1/2 price, get the Liteon equivalent, it's the SAME INTERNALS, just Sony has their purdy bezel and exterior markings on their 800a~:)

tryin to save ya some $$$, hope you make a wise decision~

    doc Holiday~

Thanks bro, I appreciate the advice. I'll search back for the Liteon you posted, if it's not already there, do you have a link to an online site that sells it for a good price? If you already posted it, disregard that....

I found one at OfficeMax today for $49.99 which included a 1 year UNLIMITED warranty. It's a black one, too.....

you should be JUST FINE w/ that model, naturally, i was only suggesting to you the IDENTICAL Liteon that is equivalent to your thread title~ :)

while off the top of my head, i don't know WHICH Sony drive the Liteon you got is equivalent to, but, my GUESS is the Sony dru-720a? not real sure~ but, it's something like that~ :)

i have the Sony dru-710a also which = Liteon SOHW-1633S, so i just FIGURE that the 1673 would probably be the 720a Sony??? :)

    good luck~ :)

    docTY~
