My niece has a Pink DS. It is not a DSi, but I am not sure if its a DSlite or not. She is 6 and I would love to get her setup to use R4 with a preloaded microSDHC filled with games for her. I currently downloaded 570 ds games in preparation for this, so I am really hoping to get this to work for her. I just checked her DS firmware and can confirm that it is magenta. Am I able to get the R4 with her DS model and firmware? This is the R4 and site I was planning on purchasing the R4 from: http://www.r4ds-ds.com/products/R4-Ultra-SDHC-R4-Revolution-For-DS-DSL(r4ultra.com).html Any help would be greatly appreciated. My parents keep shoveling cash for games she doesn't like and this is just the best solution. I have 2 PSP's running CFW, so I was relieved to find out I didn't have to worry and flash her firmware. I just can't find a definitive answer on if this pink DS will be able to use the R4. Thanks in advance! -Bildo from NJ-
bump for good news? I went ahead and ordered the R4 for the 10 bucks...heres hoping I get some clarification. I found this on the www.r4ds.cn website and this is what made me atleast confident enough to order: Q: Does it work on both DS and DS Lite? A: Yes, every revision out and to come Q: Are there any regional issues? A: No, R4 works on every DS and DS Lite from around the world.
If you had paid attention and spent 5 minutes reading forums like this instead of marketing from the manufacturer, you whould have realized that the R4 is exactly NOT the card to buy. There are at Least 2 posts on the first page that have R4 and "problem" in the subject line. If you're looking for praise or confirmation that you made a smart decision, you're not getting it from me. IMHO, you made a very poor decision.
WOW....thanks for absolutely nothing. I did read numerous thread here and got conflicting answers in almost every thread. I sure as hell aren't looking for praise in any way, shape or form. Like i posted, I am new to the R4, and after being confused by numerous posted thought I would ask for suggestions. 10 bucks is something I can spare, so I didn't make the wrong decision. If I installed it and it bricked my niece's DS, then yes, that would be a fail. So I took a few more minutes to re-read some threads and still am confused. Is there any suggestions you can actually give me? Am I to use this M3 instead? I keep reading how the R4's aren't working because of the R4's firmware. But I've read there are work arounds. "http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-176/advice-r4i_not_working-804135/" There was no solution to this thread. Some threads don't even have a reply. I am just looking for some help or suggestions, not to be put down. I appreciate you pointing out though that this is not what I want. I would just also like a heads up on a better solution. This is my first post on these forums so I was hoping I just wasn't being ignored for being a new member.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f...rd_now_what_do_i_do_nanna_is_confused-803748/ I went to the website this woman purchased hers from which she has been able to successfully get working. http://www.r4i.co.uk/shop/r4/r4-sdhc-card-for-ds-lite/7802 This product looks like the ones I've seen, but doesn't have the word "ultra" in it. Is this the one I should get? From reading around, the only difference I saw was the Ultra supported SDHC which enabled the use of larger microSD cards. Atleast this site seems like it doesn't try to confuse you. Which I am! Like I posted before, I've flashed my PSP to enable custom firmware which is a lot harder than this. Its just new to me. Not only is it new, but I don't personally have the DS. Just looking for a good support community that didn't mind helping out. So thanks again for any advice anyone can post. I do appreciate it. And before purchasing another R4, I will make sure I am getting the correct once. -Bildo from NJ-
Too clear a few things up... The R4 is one of the worst cards you can buy - dailun is right about that (but also needlessly negative). Not to say it wont work - it likely will but from what I understand is that there isn't much support for the older R4 cards. The major drawback from the R4 and older flash carts is that most of them don't support SDHC cards and they don't support the DSi - if you'd ever decide to upgrade to a DSi, you'll have to get a new one. I recommend buying the Acekard 2i from dealextreme.com - here it is It's only $12.97 w/ free shipping and it'll do everything you want it to do.
Excellent! Thats what I was confused with his post. He said it was not the card to buy, yet I read all over this site that most people got it working. Although I knew of other options, I was more familiar with the R4 name, thus making a purchase of an R4. But I could care less about the brand, I care about it working! With as much ease as possible. She has a DS lite (I think) but if we get everything working with this acekard, we will get my nephew a newer DSi for the holidays and it would be better to just get one that will work across the board. I'd rather buy 2 now that will work than worry later. Seems like it will do exactly what I want. If I could bother you with 2 more questions I would appreciate it. 1. Do I need to update the Acekard firmware once it is delivered? 2. Does it come with a microSD USB reader so I can transfer roms and such onto it. I saw the R4 included that, but am not sure about this. Thanks again so much jerred for the reply. You reassured me I made the right choice coming here to these forums.
1. You should update ANY flashcart to the latest firmware. 2. Each package is different, depending on the vendor that you buy it from. Flashcarts, as sold by the manufacturer, do not come with memory cards. The R4 is (not just my opinion) the least desirable flashcart today, for several reasons. 1. There are at least 20 variations. You didn't even list WHICH of the 20 variations that you purchased. 2. Several, if not all, have questionable software support 3. Discontinued software support means that some ROMs will never be playable on an R4. I have already documented that some R4s will probably NEVER play any of the hybrid ROMs.
