Hi I have just bought an M3 DS simply for my daughters ds lite.I Formatted the san disk 1gb card(fat32),put on the system v 1.07 firmware and added some roms.Everything was working fine until the battery ran down and the ds switched itself off.After charging for a while(and leaving it on charge)we started to play again for a bit,and then the ds switched itself off again.Now the ds will not switch on,the green led flashes but goes straight off when you push the switch,and the orange charge led only stays on for a minute or so before going off. After doing some research online it seems to suggest one of the following: a)the battery b)a fuse or internal connection c)a virus The ds is only a few months old and in warranty,and a battery is only around £10 so the first two ar'nt to much hassle.Its the third possibility that worries me. What are the chances of a virus being added to an .nds rom or the M3 ds firmware?Is it possible that the M3 itself could cause a problem?I'm guessing/hoping it's probably a coincidence,but im concerned about using the M3 and bricking a fixed/new DS. Could anyone tell me what they think the chances of this are please,or are the other causes much more likley? Thanks!
Probably the battery or a fault with the unit. I'd take it back and ask for a replacement or at least another battery though they may say the battery has gone through normal wear & tear ... I don't see that myself. Worst case scenario is you have to replace the battery yourself. Virus? doubt it but I'm no expert.
The Crashme aka the DS Virus: It is not a virus really, just some .nds files that will brick your DS and/or your flashkit if run. There are 2 versions of the crashme out there: - r0mloader.zip (shows a brick wall) - taihen.zip (shows a hentai pic) The DSlazy-tool can be used to detect the crashmes in your homebrew/backup or u can use Norton (and probably other antivirus tools) to detect em too. DSLazy: http://l33t.spod.org/ratx/DS/dslazy/ here is another program that also checks for brickers (Virii) plus it trims roms http://techsuki.net/nintendo-ds-rom-trimmer Installing the flashme is probably the best way to protect your DS from bricking. The crashmes only overwrites some parts of the firmware, so the latest versions of flashme has been made to be runnable even when some parts has been erased. The bootable part of flashme is protected by the SL1, that why u need to shorten the SL1 when u install flashme initially. This allows u to reinstall flashme and clean up your DS. If your flashkit has been "bricked" too, u most likely have to reformat the kit. It depends on the kit how hard it is to recover. Cheaper kits are usually quite hard to recover, where as the expencive kits like M3 and G6 can be saved by doing a simple firmware upgrade. The reason the M3/G6 is nearly unhurt by a crashme is because parts of the booting/firmware is hardware encoded. Usually u can find info on the manufactures site on how to unbrick if u run out of luck. Nice info Juno ... might I add though that being the unscrupulous person that I am, if it's knackered and under warranty I'd still take it back and ask for an exchange or refund... how will they know what has happened and in my experience of returns... all legitimate btw but even so ... the store doesn't give you the 3rd degree. The only thing they can say is, "no." I had a dvd player from asda one time and it packed in on me under warranty... I actually took it apart and try to fix it myself, to no avail, before I took it back and got a refund. As long as it looks as though it's not been damaged or opened they have to deal with it there and then and even if it's sent back to Ninty and they say it's been virussed wtf do you lose 'cept a knackered unit?

I was'nt sure a pc virus program would pick up a virus for a ds.I am using avast!(always on)currently,and have re-scanned the roms,it has not found anything.I will try dslazy,but i read it is not always accurate,is that correct?. I was guessing/hoping it was a coincidence.It just seemed a bit strange to have been working fine for months then gone wrong the first time i use an M3,even though we had played a few games before it all went pear shaped! I agree about taking it back! But do you think it is worth buying a battery and trying that first,or just exchange it?It is in good condition,and has'nt been opened or otherwise messed about with. well if the battery is cheap then it cant hurt to try it, but if all else fails just send it in and if they ask tell them you had a game you dropped in water and tried it out or some shiz hahaha
Take it back - suggest the battery is faulty and that they try another. Play it by ear from then on but at the end of the day you are within your rights to ask for repair/replacement/refund and in my experience you have a choice. I have had a few replacements & refunds in my time and only on very select items where they didn't carry loads of stock and I was desperate did I opt for repair.
i havent heard of anyone having a flash cart screw up their ds, cept by virii but anything is possible, so i guess just take it back and like junir said, tell them battery was funky and prolly shorted a circuit or something
