Hi. I just bought an R4 and 2Gb microSD card to use in my DS and I have not got the first clue what I do with it. I know this forum is probably usually used by people who have some idea about technology, but I am seriously useless. Can anyone explain (in language designed for idiots) how I get it to work, or direct me to a site where a guide has been made for clueless people? The R4 came with a disk which presumably tells you what to do and has the necessary programs for it, but my disk drive isn't working. Can I still use the R4 at all? Many many thanks for any help you can give me.
rhu23, Download the latest firmware for R4DS at http://www.r4ds.com. Make sure these files are present in the root directory of your micro-SD card: system_ (folder); moonshl (folder); _DS_MENU.DAT; and _DS_MSHL.NDS.
ok i was too kind of lost with r4 but i kind of understand it right now. First of all good choice going with the 2GB, believe me you'll need it. Ok first things first. Get the memory (micro Sd) and put it in the usb adapter (included). Open the file with the memory (its obviously empty. If i were you i would ignore the cd. Its probably outdated anyway. Go here and download the latest english kernel. Put it in your memory and your good to go. (if you need any more help you can pm me)
Hi, thanks for the replies. The problem I have now is that I download the kernel from the R4DS site, it goes into the 'My Documents' part of my computer as a 'rar'(?) file, then does nothing. Nothing happens if I try to open it, it just flashes then stops. I thought it would be a zip file with stuff in it, but it doesn't appear to be. What have I done wrong?
Download 7-Zip here to open the .RAR file. When you extract the file you'll end up with the folder that'll contain all four files I've mentioned from my initial response. Drag all four files to the root directory of your micro-SD card.
