    Hi,
My son currently has the DS but ive bought him a Dsi for christmas.
Ive just ordered a gold R4i card and downloaded the kernel v1.30 english.
Can ordinary DS games be put onto it and is the procedure the same as for the DS?
Also is there anything else I should know that is different?
    Thanks

do yourself a favour skip R4 they way to difficult not upgraded properly as there are about 25-30 different types all need different firmware (operating system), dstti are very much like them. dstti for dsi dstt for ds lite and there are loads of other cards around if it has i after the name its for the dsi.

Thats a shame as ive already purchased one, from what ive seen tho firmware available is as follows:

    kernel v1.30 english

    Video format conversion tool
    imgview0.6 for R4i
    R4 ROM Trimmer 2.0

+ skin downloads (which I am not too bothered about)

Ive always used a DSTT card before, only reason I got the R4i was beause it was cheaper, and on the DS the R4 was easier to navigate than the DSTT or so I thought.
I might give it a go and see if its ok, if not then it looks like being a DSTTi card.

you can use the ysmenu on the ds card or dsision with it quicker and easier. my son and i have a ds lite and dsi so, we can swap micro sd card from one to another dstt to dstti no worries, does the r4 you got run on 1.4 firmware? if you go on-line you might need it. look up ds vision. great movies player card

AFAIK the R4i Gold doesn't have compatibility with the DSi after v1.4 update. If you want to keep using your card, I wouldn't upgrade your DSi.

    Hi,
I changed my mind on the R4i Gold and have got a R4i SDHC upgrade for revolution for DS.
Ive tried it in my DSi but the card isnt showing as being in it, ive put on the 1.14v firmware but im clueless as to where to put the games.

you load the kernel on the micro sd card and the 1.4 firmware upgrade, it is booted from the cart after you load it through the kernel

i think your r4 is like my dstti you need to upgrade it in a ds lite or dsi under 1.4, did mine on ds lite weird thing you need a ds that can run the card to unblock the card for a dsi 1.4 yet most people have a dsi 1.4 try it in a ds lite better option as you can't update or alter firmware on the ds lite console, you want to alter the rom cart firmware not the dsi 1.4 firmware. 1.4 firmware blocks all carts initially from running and you need to run the card on the 1.4 so try as i said it should run fine on a ds lite or dsi below 1.4

Not sure if its blocked or not but think im a bit nearer to sorting it... ive put the firmware kernel 1.18 on and added flash update (ultrai_update.nds) on the sd card inserted it into the dsi and clicked on what is 'star wars lethal alliance ubisoft' but all i get is a blank bottom screen and thje top screen shows a reb box like a sd card and inside says menu?
Sorry to be bugging you, im at my wits end here trying to get it to work.

    Woohoo Ive done it...

I copied files as follows from my pc to dsi

    moonmemo
    moonshl2
    r4i menu
    r4

added a game to a folder I made called 'Games'.
Inserted card and clicked 'Star Wars Lethal Alliance Ubisoft' then pressed 'Games' and my game was there ready to play.

This is for the R4i sdhc upgrade 1.4v (red box)

    Go to website www.dscardworld.com/download.shtml

    and download the following file:

    R4i SDHC including Moonshell (22.4MB)

Extract file to your PC in a place where you will find it.
I put mine on my desktop.

It would then be a good idea to reformat the SD Card.
This can be done in Vista by doing the following:
select the correct removeable disc in 'Computer' right click on it and select format, change selections to FAT32 and click on Quick Format. If you cannot do this then you can download a formatter here: www.panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/sd_formatter.html

Once this has been done I then transferred the files from 'software-r4isdhc' to my SD Card and added a folder called 'Games'.
I initially transferred just one game to the 'Games' folder to check to see it worked which it did so then added the rest.
And the rest is history... only took me a week to crack it but hopefully this bit of info will help someone else.

And just to let you know once the DSi is switched on with the card inside it wont show as a R4i card as I found out, it was shown as a game which wasnt a game I had on the card.
