Just wondering what is the major difference (form factor, method of inserting ROMs, do all of these accept same ROM files with no modifications needed, etc) with the three mentioned modding solutions, assuming that one buys a DS Lite and only intends to play NDS games on it (both, originals and backups and no GBA games, no need for video player, etc)? And yes, I admit being a noob and sorry if I ask a dumb question, but couldn't find a clear-cut answer to the question despite searching through the forum
M3 Lite & Supercard Lite need the game to be patched and put onto a micro SD card. Both come with software, either on CD or downloadable DSX - drag and drop, no patching required. M3 Lite & Supercard Lite - feature expandable memory, because it depends on what size microSD card you are using DSX - 512 Megabytes of built in memory - unexpandable M3 Lite & SC LITE - GBA support (M3's is better).. DSX does not have GBA support If you only plan to play NDS games, I would suggest an M3 Lite PRO with passcard3 and a microSD card. You'll come out about $20 cheaper than a DSX and have about 2x the space (if you pick up a 1GB card). SC LITE is good for NDS mode too, but I personally prefer the M3 over the SC
Thanks. How is the form factor, I understood that DSX is simply a cartridge -sized mod with all included within the cartridge. Tried using G image search and everything, but couldn't figure out quite exactly how the M3 Lite and/or SCL do attach to the DS Lite? I assume they are plugged into the cartridge slot, but they have some external part that then sticks out or attached below the console or... ?-) Do the M3 Lite and SCL allow playing originals, i.e. do they require some weird hacked firmware to the DS itself? Surely, all the solutions need to be removed in order to play originals, as they attach to the cartridge slot, right?
The DSX like you said fits into the DS slot The M3 and SC both plug into the GBA slot, and an additional piece of hardware (passcard3) is stuck into the DS slot - allows for booting in DS mode. There's nothing connecting the two together In order to play originals, simply remove the m3/sc and plug in the original. You dont need to hack your firmware or anything like that in order to play backups on your DS
Thank you Helped a lot to get some kinda summary about the topic, should ease selecting the mod solution if/when I get DS Lite for my kid.
