    Hey Guys,

It's been a long time since I've been on the site. I've been looking around the website for answers.

Q I have a Starview 1 box and a Kryptview a750 box. I have a MMDS singal (for NTHELL) but I runs from the ground not an ariel (also i'm living in Dublin) Anyways, I know there's no crack for the N3 as of yet but I was wondering how I go about getting the DTT? I have two Sharp Tv's which support "DTV" and some sort of Card slot in them..there about a year old 50" 1080p HD LCD Televisions. So I was just wondering is there anyway I get the DTT on boxes or even through this DTV on the television?

Thanks in advance for any help/advice
(Sorry if this was alread posted)

you need a mpeg4 decoder to get DTT, either your TV has it or you will need a mpeg4 decoder box, the majority of new TV's sold in Ireland have mpeg4 tuners which will display the DTT chans, Tv's bought up the north dont have mpeg4, they have mpeg2,

So you need to check out if your TV has mpeg4 tuners in it, you also need an aerial to pick them up, a digital one, you can pick one up in powercity or maplins

Those two boxs you have are now obsolete (hold onto the Krtyptview though) the Sv1 bin it

But, I read they are droppin DTT and going a different route (seen this in the herald paper)

Seen that myself Mickah they even said that the government might introduce a scheme where they will subsidise some of the cost of the box (if you are on social welfare) which is nearly us all at this time, but look on the bright side Brian Cowen is gonna buy us all a box, Ha Ha

I've checked out the tv's they were brought on pixmania.ie and imported from England, It only does the MPEG 2, which annoyes me. I just wanted to check it out for the craic, Just because it has the function on the tv. I have the Sky in at the mo.

Yea from what I've seen online, it seems like there delaying the DTT. I hope they roll it out soon, I'd be delighted with myself if I had a decent reception upstairs!

I rememeber when I we got the starview in and the Sky Engineer was saying that he was working on a box and apparently him and few lads had managed to decrypt some of the channels but I think he was all talk because he didnt know how to the starview box working and I havent heard from the lad since haha

Irish DTT in mpeg4 is available since august 2008 from three rock. Connect a aerial to your sharp and try a channel scan for dvb-t. If you get only sound and no picture for the dtt channels your TV is mpeg2 only.

I am not sure what I picking up through my ariel.
I have 2 i thought digital channels rte 1 and network 2.I am also picking up to test channels from rte.
This is just through a normal analog ariel with an up to date tv.
Will I be able to pick up other channels ie british channels from wales if i get a digital ariel also this tv has free to air on it.So if i get a sat dish put up will it recieve the free to air channels.
Can any member explain this to me as I have the upc basic package and I see no point in paying them if I can get this service for nothing.

depends on where ure based, some pick up chans from uk regions, but based on their location (wexford may pick up wales, border countys pick up nor ire service, but the chans your getting are the DTT chans, if your TV displays them, then you have a mepg4 TV which is fine,

for me, if or when its fully launched you will get the home chans (RTE, TV3 etc), you can then use a FTA sat and thats it, a very good selection of chans for free,

just to add old mpeg2 tvs you can get a card to put into tv to convert to mpeg4,both tvs i have mpeg4 tuners in them and also have a digital aerial under roof in attic, need to wire up splitter box to various rooms, then i wont need upc.
also to add if you got a freesat hd a few free channels like bbchd and itvhd and possibly more to come.
