Dual burner not reading/writing dual layer dvd-r's

just bought a dual layer dvd-rw
when a dual dvd-r is put in it it does nothing. and when going to burn on imgburn it says medium not present
any ideas as to how this can be?

You need to provide more information.

 

Just because a burner says it's dual layer doesn't mean it's compatible with every type of media, especially without a firmware upgrade.
