I want to buy a new system and cannot figure out which will do the job for me. I usually do alot of burning and downloading. I want to be able to listen to music and work on my writing at the same time. I have a choice between two system which are both Intels.

    system #1: Pentium d 820 2.8 dual core; memory expands to 4G's
(will start with 2G's); 250 HD

    system #2: Pentium 4 3.2 w/HT; memory expands to 4G's (will
    start with 2G's); 250g HD

I don't know if there is any difference and if so, how much of a difference. I just want a system that's a bit quicker than my 2.8 Celeron.

The only real difference is Pentium D are up to 512mb Cache and Pentium 4 start at 512mn cache and go up.
