    Hey,

With all the talk that current dvd-r burners might be able to burn dual layer dvds. is there any chance that a dvd-r/dvd+r could do the same with a firmware upgrade???

would be of great help to me, i don't want to buy a new burner

    thx

No, a normal DVD R will only have one layer, so they will not be able to be burnt as dual. The talk about current DVD palyer sbeing able to burn dual layered disc is an interesting one. To burn through a layer onto another surface the frequency of the laser has to be changed. I dont know that upgraded firmware will alow you to do this, but i doubt it.

Pioneer did demonstrate this at the CES convention in Las Vegas with a current pioneer drive with just a firmware update.

However, i don't think that they would be so stupid as to put this patch out and lose the opportunity to sell new(and more expensive) drives.
