I'm wanting to use a spare computer for a PVR (I asked for that in another thread, but because of the topic requirements, I thought I should split it into two threads). I'm also wanting to hook up a PC in my kitchen. My thought is to put a flat panel in the wall, use a wireless mouse and keyboard, and have it pull up the internet (for recipes) and just scroll through pictures in it's down time like a digital picture frame.
I know nothing about running dual monitors. Is something like that possible?

I can only clone or extend my display when using 2 monitors. I have an ATI HD3870. Cloning the display would work fine if you only use 1 screen at a time/view same stuff on both screens.

Keep in mind a wireless mouse will only work so far away from it's base. My Mx Revolution works about 20 feet from USB stick and I can only have 1 Mx mouse connected, tried another and it didn't work.

Yes, you can run more than one monitor on a system if your hardware supports it, I have done so, using an s-video cable and an nvidia card and configuring it for two separate desktops.

Now, I don't think on my system personally that I could have an active desktop on one monitor and a screensaver running on another, but then again, I've never tried, and with a better card than mine or different software, you may be able to.

But just setting up multiple displays isn't very difficult.

Are you talking about having one computer record shows for you to watch on one screen, and also control a display in the kitchen?

I recently hooked up my bedroom and living room tv's to my pc. I LOVE IT!!! Now I can watch shows on hulu while my wife is on the pc or vice-versa. The best config I came up with was to extend the desktop and drag the media player to the secondary display. Also, for about $90 this mouse/keyboard combo works perfectly from up to 100 ft away using 2.4 ghz radio frequency(WKB-4000US SlimTouch Wireless Mini Touchpad USB Keyboard) got mine from dell. I keep my main and secondary mouse and keyboard hooked up with no problems. Whichever you use will override the other. Good Luck!
