Our experience with Dell is horrible. The system got lost, they could not find it, they said it was a UPS problem but UPS was able to prove it was not. I tried to reorder the same system and was told prices had gone up and I would be responsible for the increase, this a few days later. I refused and then the same day while I'm at work the original shows up. I call to confirm and find out NOW that what we were sold would not have worked but we faced a possible restocking fee. I told them it was not opened and to come get the thing. They agreed to take it back saying it was a sales error but wanted me to pay shipping. I refused and after hours of stating my case they agreed to pay the shipping and have UPS come get it and take it back. They never showed. The same day I get emails saying I was responsible for shipping and restocking fees. I was able to prove they had stated I was not. The pickup was resent and right now I am still waiting for them to get the thing. Our local UPS person said we were not the first with problems. She stated a few weeks before a man had ordered 2 systems, one for his home and one for his business and Dell sent him 7 of them. I of course cancelled my Dell account and will not buy from them ever again. They showed me they are unprofessional, they care only about the sales not the customers, they will say whatever they have to, they will tell you one thing then do another and they cannot keep their lies straight. The new phrase around here when someone gets a raw deal is DUDE you got DELLED!

yet another reason why people should build their own comptuers. you can build a computer for cheaper and with better parts than a store bought one.

correct discoop building your own or having your local PC shop build one is the way to go .the box systems cant be upgraded like a custom system can and your pretty much stuck with the software bundle they give you. i had mine built per my sig which iam very happy with

One of our problems is not being near a big city where they can do that but I fully understand what you are saying. What made all this worse was that it was a Christmas present for my 7 year old. He spent all day looking out the window waiting for it. So I not only to deal incompetent people at Dell, I had to deal with a small boy who is too young to understand all this. The good news is we did order from another company and I checked on the parts used and they all seem to be good. I can also uprgade it as needed. I was able to get only the software I needed as well. One saleperson at another store tried to convince me my 7 year old needed MS Office. I mean seriously, when was the last time a 7 year old used Excel? Thanks for all the good advice to all of you. Oh and now that my budget is down to about pocket change, the computer coming (not from Dell) only has on board sound. I was told get a sound card but on a low budget what do you good people suggest?

So far my dell has been good to me. Although i have upgraded it many times. But watch out for there warrenty. They are really stingy with it. I had to fight with them to get my new wireless keyboard and mouse. Even though it was all there fault.

for a 7yr old than use the onboard sound for now. won't notice the difference & you would probably also have to get new better speakers too!

Update, after my wife and I looking over the new computer we have decided it is better than the one I got last year. My 7 year old wants mine so now I get the one coming in. I have Logitech speakers with a big bass and 5 smaller ones placed around the room. Now I think a sound card is needed. X-Fi or Audigy?

Whatever friend, your money, disable the perfectly good onboard 5.1 (or even 7.1 they're incorporating these days) if you wish.
Some onboard audio is really high-end these days, name-brand stuff and 7.1 channels etc. but some use pretty cheap/marginal, basic AC97 chips.
I use the nVidia nForce audio on my ABit, it works well.
But without knowing anything about your motherboard, I say go for the Audigy. Nobody EVER went wrong buying a Creative soundcard...

I checked the order and the built in sound is Intel High Definition Audio, 8 speaker configurable with up to 7.1 surround sound capabilities .

Yeah! Now we're talking. That thing's sweet.
But people want a whole PC for $500 bucks these days, little speakers & everything, LoL :^)
But I'd love one of those... hey WTF, maybe I should get one?
Thanks Ireland - it's overkill (but I love it).
Now I've got a monkey on my back? See if I can sleep tonite.
But I bet that Intel audio is pretty okay, it works fine I s'pose (7.1 channels!) but nothing like my new love...
So I guess the deal is, if you're gonna replace the onboard audio you'd better do it right! That X-Fi Elite Pro would certainly qualify,
    Regards
    (Yeah thanks Ireland)
