I have read in these forums that MPEG2 is a very "lossy" format. DivX seems to be the next big format since MP3. I am trying to figure out whether I should convert caputured analog video (DV AVI) to MPEG2 or DivX. More and more DivX enabled DVD players are hitting the market. I want a video format that offers the best video quality. That is my question. Does MPEG2 or DivX offer the best quality. I realize that both are compressed formats and there will be some loss of quality in either. I just want to minimize the loss of quality. Thanks.
both mpeg2 and divx can provide poor to great quality, it just depends on the compression settings. I personally would recommend mpeg2, because there are more compression options. but if these are to play in a dvd player, why not just convert the dv files to 720x480 mpeg2, which is the standard dvd format, and burn to dvd? MUCH better than divx. Do you have any decent editing software, like Premiere or Avid Xpress?
