    Hello All,

    I am a newbie in this whole video process, recently bought handycam and now taking rides in processing that DV to DVD to share it with the family.
    I have used iMovie and iDVD to do it once but I felt like video quality is compromised so I wanted to do it some other way and I started looking for guides. Unfortunately, these guides confused me more than I could extract some useful information from them.

    Can anyone explain me different steps in going from camcorder transferred DV on PC to DVD on PC? The technical terms involved in it.
    I will also appreciate if someone could suggest me how can I add subtitles.
    I won't mind using more than one program in the process of going from DV to DVD but I would like to have best possible quality DVD at the end.

    Many thanks for all your inputs.
    P.S. - I couldn't find any other best forum to post this query. Moderators, please move the question to other suitable forum if needed.

    Microsoft Movie Maker will let you capture from your DV source, but it does reduce the quality;

    Nero will let yoou capture DV and from my experience retains the quality. Once captured you can can then recode to MPEG-2, as well as authoring the DV stream for chapters, subtitles, effects etc. Nero can be downloaded for a free 30 trial before you buy.
