I recently upgraded my dvd xcopy, little did I know that they took the ripper out. Since then I downloaded the dvd43 and have installed it, however I have to re-install dvd43 every time I want to copy a dvd otherwise I get the CSS warning pop up. My dvd43 must not be opening up correctly when I access the xcopy program. Any suggestions? Thanks

    hello!

this dosnt really help you but i have a similar question, i also have the new rp version but also have the older one with the ripper, the new one has beter features than the old one (mainly the ability to copy everything on the disk not just the film) is there a way of getting the ripper off the old version and adding it to the new one? i know nothing about this sort of stuff so i figured it would be worth asking here.
poplau: sorry to piggyback on your thread without offering you help :)

    poplau,

Install DVD43 on your C: Drive and allow it to run in the background all the time (you'll have the little "smiley face" in the lower Right corner all the time)

When you use XCopy, it will already be there :)

    cheerie,

You'll need a programmer who will illegally rip 321's program - Hope you like jail food :-(

As a going away present and for being such a lovely constant on our show here is a lovely program called "321Gone" to rid that peskie little warning page at the beginning of your backup -

    http://psidoc0.tripod.com/

When you become tired of DVD XCopy, come on back and we'll introduce you to some really great Freeware to rip and burn your DVD's with :D)

    Pete

BTW, Welcome to our Club, both of you :D

    ScubaPete,

Thanks for the info. I think I got it now. The smiley face is now down below and so far it seems to be working, although I haven't had a chance to copy more than one in my collection since my post. I think part of my problem was also that I had not installed the patin cofer because I didn't think that I needed to since I remembered seeing a pop up window that told me patin cofer was being installed when I first upgraded. Obviously that Patin cofer must not have been the same because it seems to be working now that I downloaded and installed it along with the dvd 43. Thanks again.

I haven't tired of XCopy yet, probably because I am just getting started, but what are you referring to just in case I grow weary and tire down the road and you're not on the playground any more?

    Silly You,

    ScubaPete's always around :D)

We're going to be working in the kitchen Sooo, off you go and find a "Cook's are Gods" apron then come on back b'cause as the pitch man said to the "Rubs" - - "Have I got a receipe for you - ->"

This “Newbie Starter Recipe” is for the most part, is as a complete a package as anyone could wish It’s most outstanding plus factor is IT’S FREE !! Secondly, it only has 2 parts just 2.

It's second great factor, the guides are picture-by-picture, step-by-step, easy-as-pie.

We will start our dish with a main ingredient of DVD Shrink 3.1.7 Beta 5
It's FREE, can do almost everything you could wish in as few as 3 steps - It will rip your movies (gets rid of that “pesky” copyright protection thingy ;-) in generally 1 to 3 minutes. It can be used for your smaller DVD-5’s (<4.36GB) and it also allows you to compress your larger DVD-9's (>4.36GB) to the necessary 4.36GB in order to insure a nice burn without encroaching onto the very edge of your DVD disc. The finished product is sure to please with no significant loss of video or audio quality.

“But wait there’s more –“ (as the late night announcers would say)
For those who like the backups “Their way” (a US colloquium, referring to a hamburger from Burger King) it also allows you to tailor your DVD’s however you wish. To keep in or remove foreign audio streams, menus, i.e. Outer Mongolian or Eastern Himalayan Yak language, Director’s comments, extras and trailers, all that is required is to click and drag a part of your DVD (using re-author), it couldn’t be easier.

It’s your choice, backup your full DVD or parts of it or just the movie by itself PLUS, if you have Nero somewhere on your PC, it will work behind the scenes hooking up with Nero and then burning your files to your blank DVD “automatically” while backing up everything to your Hard Drive and there it provides you with a nice, neat VIDEO_TS folder for you, perfect to have Nero, CloneDVD or RecordNow Max burn for you at some later time.

(Now it’s time to mix in the second and last part ;-)

Nero 6.0, the above mentioned software that will allow DVDShrink to burn your DVD “automatically” is also an excellent software program with a lot of extras you are sure to use in the near future or, you might consider RecordNow Max ver.4.5 or CloneDVD both are excellent alternative software burning programs with much to offer. Actually, I also use CloneDVD a lot, I like to watch the sheep eat popcorn (inside joke).

A complete DVDShrink program download and step-by-step guide can be downloaded from –

    Shrink download - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd_shrink.cfm
    Shrink Guide -
    http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm

To get you going with that “automatic writing” thingie that DVDShrink is capable of doing for you, may I offer you Nero. I suggest you download the guide in case you wish to use it for the many other things Nero is capable of doing for you :)

A 30-day, free, fully functional Nero 6 download can be had here:

A Great Nero, step-by-step guide can be downloaded from –

RecordNow Max 4.0 30-Day free trial
    http://www.stompinc.com/recordnowmax/rnmx-retail.phtml?stp

Theses are great programs, extremely easy to use -
Give it a quick try, you'll have a perfect burn this afternoon, really :D)

    Enjoy,
    “Pete”

    Scuba Pete,

I forgot to ask you on my last post.....If I follow your recipe and use the Shrink and all of the other ingredients, will I still be able to use the Xcopy and my dvd43 or will I experience problems with programs fighting with each other? Thanks

As they say in sunny Mexico, "Esta no problemo."

and as they say down under, "No worries, mate."

and as "Uncle" ScubaPete might say, "Noper"

    cheers,

    ScubaPete,

I finally got around to using the DVD Shrink, but I had problems burning it to disc. I have Nero version 5.5 and it will only let me burn it to an image file and will not let me use my disc drive as the recorder. Is this likely due to my 5.5 version since it gives me a pop up telling me that I can only use the recorder that the version is bundled? Is there any other way around it using Nero 5.5 or do I need to get the 6? I was finally able to burn it by saving the file as an ISO and then using Decrypter, but I kind of wanted to use Nero. What is your Professional suggestion? Thanks!!

    poplau,

Ooohhh, my Yes, that would certainly be the case. A bundled version is meant to be a taste tingler. Enough to get you like it but not enough to have it work extremely well for you.

If you have the $$$$ then Nero 6 is great.
Reason: Just talking about DVD burning, Nero's recode 2 is a super tool with a bit more control than DVD Shrink has i.e. Keeping menus or replacing removed sections of film or extras with still pictures. Also it has many other features, i.e.mini-DVD format for burning VOB’s for writing to CD’s. :p)

A good way to go - "Google" for Nero 5.5. You can find a download and legal s/n for about $10.00 then you're back in business burning "automatically" with Nero once again. Another advantage, you'll still get a credit toward your purchase of an upgrade to Nero 6 should you come into an inheritance sometime in the future :)

Hey, cheerie - are you still there ??

I was re-reading this thread and I guess you've found out by now that the required patin-cauffin drivers aren't available anymore :-(

If you really want the RF DVD XCopy programs to operate, the recommended rippers are AnyDVD or DVDRegionFree. These 2 programs work behind the scenes to render the CSS and Region removed and in so doing will allow DVD Xcopy to process the Movie DVD.

Recently I have been testing DVDRegionFree and was comparing that against AnyDVD. I was of the opinion that DVDRegionFree was pretty good, HOWEVER - I found that there are some DVD's that it doesn't work well on - Specifically, *those that have packaged the Intervideo DVD Player with the DVD Movie. These are (How about this?) also the exact same DVD's that the new DVD Shrink 3.1.7 has trouble ripping.

    * Both Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Matrix Revolution have Intervideo DVD Player packaged with the DVD movie and both cause the same error message to be displayed by DVD Shrink 3.1.7. Coincidentally, both programs cannot be ripped by DVDRegionFree or by AnyDVD but can be processed without ant difficulty by DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5.
