after burning a few dvds with single layer, i noticed, some look ok... the smaller ones i guess do better. i cant stand to watch shity quality movies, other than burning one and redoing it on double layer if its quality is sub-par, is there any rule of thumb as far as when to use dl disks?
The only rule is $.....some people have more $ that others. If you learn to compress like a Pro, is not need to use a Dobble Layers, since they cost more $.
It depends on the movie. If has a lot of dark scenes, or lots of action, you will notice the compression more.
it seems to me it wouldnt matter how "pro" you get. to compress an actual movie to fit on dvd5 wouldnt you have to sacrafice quality? or is there some revolutionary software that maintains the quality while making a movie fit on a single layer disk?
Yes...DVD Rebuilder give you a better results than Shrink. But if you have a high-End TV. and also you have those kind of dark regular DVD's Movies that latelly are coming out this way 'cos of the transition to Blue-Ray Disc's; you also need to Pay-for to adjuste your TV by a Pro after the TV have more that 1,000 hrs of service, to have a better dark Picture Resolution. Hope this may help too.
Not sure what "the transition to Blu Ray" has got to do with anything...?? If the action in a movie happens most of the time at night or some low light setting, then the movie will be dark, whether on BR or DVD. DVD-Rebuilder will give you better results, it uses different algorithms of compression, it re-encodes the video, vs. DVD Shrink, which transcodes.
Since Blue-Ray come out on the market.....the Movie maker's know that the high-deff is alot better and so they have the hands free to make more movies that have dark scenes or requiered less light to be film, like never before. That's why lattelly we been seen more and more Movies with dark scenes or longer dark scenes......and the requierement of adjusmting the TV's Set's are more esential today than never before in special if you still using regular DVD's as play back. Hope this help.
