hi i was well into the dvd authoring a few years back, but i left the scene for some other hobie i have, im getting back into the fold again so i wanted to ask you what is the best program to use to author my dvd's and how do i get the best quality from the program because i have used one of my old programs with a very high quality source and the final dvd was barley watchable, and that was with the quality settings maxed out. so what im looking for is the best quality

TMPGenc is very easy to use and keeps your original videos at the same quality. It's very intuitive and you get the output in less than 1 hour.

DVD-lab has more options, but it's a bit complex.

If you just want to edit dvd's cut out scenes, the best program for that is videoredotvsuite. It's frame accurate and saves without reencoding. No quality loss. As long as you don't change the output size etc, it can edit and save a complete dvd in less than 20 minutes.

If you need titles/transitions/multiple audio tracks, try womble mpeg dvd wizard. It can also save without reencoding.

Those are the only programs I use, the times I've use them they kept the video/audio in sync. Programs like pinnacle where always crashing on me.

I also vote for TMPGEnc DVD Author 3. I've tried all the popular authoring apps. I find this the hands down best both in ease of use and more importantly quality output.
