i have several programs installed for backing up dvd movies: i have ripped the video ts files to the drive and have successfully in the past recreated copies using Nero 6... but now, although the copy says the burn was completed successfully, the files are invisible and the dvd cannot be read in either of my 2 pcs with dvd burner drives... yet these dvds will play properly in a (very cheap) stand-alone dvd player unit. it seems as though the pc file access table is not being written to the dvd? this also happened when i used a different software to burn the ripped files from my HD. when i then used nero to create a CD-ROM there was no problem, the files were visible on the disc exactly as expected. can anyone suggest what i can do to restore full function to my dvd burning suite? i am using WINXP PRO + SP2, and running Nero 6, 1-Click DVD Copy, DVD-X Copy, Copy to DVD SE and DVD Region-Free CS (my other PC is running the same set of programs but the dvds made on that machine are correctly indexed, i only have this problem with my laptop, and the problem is only recent)
sounds like a media quality issue here. I had kinda the same thing happen to me with kypermedia crap garbage discs. The only difference I had was that my dvd player didn't like em that much. Everything else acted as if they were the plague. Both my DVD drives in the PC wouldn't let the disc eject and wouldn't read them. Memorex is generally crap too, stay away from them.
hi - thanks for answering: i use the same brand dvd blank discs that i have always used, they are fine in my other dvd burner (and used to be in the laptop one too until a day or so ago), and any dvds burned in that one (which is the same brand as my laptop : ASUS) show up perfectly well in my laptop - its only the laptop ones that have stopped being properly functional
There's a program called DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/) that allows you to see who really made the disc (brand name isn't always who made it) and also gives a link to compatibility information. May be worth checking out and it's free.
hello again - i appreciate your assistance but i think that you may have misunderstood my query: i am looking for information about how to fix a recent problem with proven compatible hardware/software until a few days ago this problem did not exist, something has happened to my software/hardware which prevents any of my dvd movie backups made after that date from being visible in windows... the disc reads as empty but not blank; and yet in dvd player appliances the dvd functions normally (CD-ROMs created with this drive function properly, the problem is only with DVD movie discs) this problem has only occurred with my reasonably new ASUS laptop DVD R/RW dual layer burner, and only over the past week i want to hear from anyone who has had this type of problem before, who can offer me suggestions on how to fix it (reinstalling the NERO burning software has not made any difference)
...still squizzle is quite correct. Pls download dvdinfopro as he requested. Unfortunately media working one day does not mean success another. Squizzle, myself and many many others answer questions such as this daily, and it's usually the media.
hi there again: ok i installed the software and below is the results of the scan (first i tried to identify one of the faulty discs, then one that was written earlier, hence the double set of results) i would be interested to hear any info you have regarding compatibility. my laptop's asus dvd r-rw dual layer drive has the following microsoft driver id in windows: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532A ________________________________________________________________ [13:12:03] Waiting For Drive To Initialize Disc... there should be a button that accesses a database comparing different media and reviewing and giving compatibility info.
while i have never personally used BeAll discs, the name itself warrants some further investigation to being considered "poor media", i think if you try some BETTER media, your problems could be alleviated. people ALWAYS assume that media is NOT the issue in ANY of their problems they might be having, however, in MOSt cases, media is THE ONLY PROBLEM that makes things go haywire~ seems like you haven't changed anything else in terms of hardware and or procedure in your backups, so, i think it would be a good idea to get some GOOD QUALITY media and this might be the answer to your queries~ Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim would be what i recommend to try~ good luck pohpoh~
hmmm, never come across those. They do sound dodgy. A little digging turned up a quote 'Used by several government organizations like NASA, SEC, FAA etc due to dependable, no-compromise level of quality'. hmmmm. still not sure. A little more digging shows they're a spinoff of Samsung - http://.dvd-recordable.org/Reviews+index-req-showcontent-id-103.phtml The reviewer was looking forward to reviewing but that was back in Sept 2004 and still no review. So it would seem it boils down to Samsung's quality of media, which i don't know anything about..
