OK guys, I'm a long time lurker here who's learned so much invaluable information from these boards it is ridiculous. I've been backing up my purchased DVD's since roughly 2003. I admit, I by no means am a tech speak expert, so I hope anyone who needs further information or doesn't understand what I am trying to convey will be patient with me. I've used clonedvd, dvdfab, dvddecrypter, dvdshrink, vobblanker, dvdrebuilder, imgburn and a host of other programs over the years... all with successful results. Now, for the life of me I can't manage to burn a single backup that plays on either of my two dvd players at home, BUT yet they all play on my computer just fine. I usually do my backups quite a few at a time, so I have no other benchmark to give when this problem started than the last time I was successful, which was 2 weeks ago. I have changed nothing at all since or even remotely before then. I have uninstalled and reinstalled every program, none with any different results than before. I was using older media, Verbatim+R's, so I bought new media two days ago, same brand and type (Disc ID: MCC-004-00) and got the same results. None of the original discs I'm trying to backup have any listings on here at all as having a problem, and all of them play just fine on my home players. One movie I will give as example is Cyborg Soldier, bought online if thats relevant. If I use Dvdshrink to rip and create an iso file, no compression, and set it to burn the disc using Dvddecrypter or Imgburn? It plays on my computer but not in either player. Same thing with the trial versions of Anydvd and Clonedvd... though I own clonedvd, but the key is currently on a computer with mobo issues I have yet to repair. Same thing with the trial version of Anydvd and Shrink writing with Dvddecrypter or Imgburn. All of these things would lead me to think its a hardware issue, but how could the burner in a 3 month old laptop one day just decide to burn discs that play on itself, but not on in-home players? Help? Questions? Fire away and sincerest thanks in advance anyone who tries to help me or took the time to read this lengthy first post.
Also, if its relevant, my OS is 64 bit Windows 7 Home Edition. Though as mentioned, I've had no previous problems making backups before.
New info to add, I had an older iso file on my HDD that I had successfully burned in the past, maybe 3 weeks ago. I burned it again now, with success. Guess that leaves the burner out of the equation, and the programs I've used as well since they were uninstalled and reinstalled fresh. Only angle I see is a computer issue of some type between the ripping to writing process. Anyone?
OK, I uninstalled and reinstalled EVERYTHING again, including an old daemon tools I had installed and the trial version of anydvd. Reinstalled shrink, dvdfab, and dvddecrypter... Success!
I have been having the exact same problem for the last 2 weeks. I am using dvdfab and dvdshrink. I have backed up about 30 movies in the last 2 weeks. I always check them in my computer dvd rom to make sure the burn was successful and of course they were, but when I actually tried to watch one the other day in my dvd player, which is also a vcr to dvd recorder, it would not play. The burn is always successful but will only play in the computer I burn it with. I did not try uninstalling and reinstalling anything yet. I did use the stand alone Nero burner on my computer and that worked the first time but would not burn the second time I tried it. I did download IMG Burn but I found it a little confusing to use and did not have much luck. I am currently using Sony DVD-Rs, I have used about 8 different brands and it has always been hit or miss, including Verbitum, but this is the first time they have not played in the dvd player. I did try slowing down the burn to 4x and got the same results.
