Listed below is the message I get everytime I burn a DVD. I have burned DVD for years and have always been able to figure out the problem. I remove and reinstalled software for my DVD Burner, I have removed and resinstalled Nero 7 and have removed and reinstalled DVD Decrypt & DVD Shrink.

Any help would be greatly appreciated and I will mention the good deed to Santa.

    Merry Christmas
    Tim - Atlanta

Nero doesn't seem to recognize the drive.
Is the burner firmware up to date.
Did you use the Nero Clean tool to uninstall Nero before reinstalling.

Try burning the files with ImgBurn to see if it has the same trouble.

I'm in the same boat. I have an HP DV4-1147cl with that drive and it's made nothing but coasters with many of my favorite burning apps.

That drive is not supported by Nero, ImgBurn, CDBurnerXP and many others. There is a compatibility issue. Even the interal Vista burning has problems with it!!!! We got a lemon.

The only software that I have gotten to work with it is the Cyberlink Power2Go. It came with the system. It works, yet others don't, so there is a problem obviously.

Until some developers are willing to put their egos in their pocket and admit that there is a compatibility problem it won't get fixed. If you go to many forums they will simply blame it on something or someone else, or have you try all of the things you and I have already tried to fix it.

There is no updated firmware and no one wants to admit there is a problem, so we just got to wait until the blame game and pass the buck process goes through its motions.

IF you get any other burning software to work with it, please post back, I'd like to know which. I will do the same. I haven't tried DVD Decryptor.

    My Results So Far:

Many of the programs that don't work will either pick
it up as reader-only or they poop out part way.

Vista Internal: Sometimes *Nod* It figures. Way to go Micro$oft!
    Nero 7 - 7.5: No
    ImgBurn 2.4.2.0: No
    DVd Decrypter: No
    DVD Shrink: No
    Cyberlink Power2Go v5.6: Yes
    Deep Burner v1.9: No
    InfraRecorder v0.46: Yes
Burn4Free v4.6: Not Tested - Not Free. Requires ad toolbar be installed.
StarBurn v10: Yes. I don't like the software though.

Overall, Shame on HP and any other computer seller that includes these drives knowing there is
a problem. Especially when it has problems with the operating system it comes with!!!
