Hello. Brand new to these forums; this is a fantastic site, learning a lot already. I have just installed my first DVD burner, the NEC 3540. I removed the original DVD ROM drive, now about 3 years old. There is also a Plextor CD burner still installed. My question - would it be better to have both the NEC DVD/CD burner and the Plextor CD burner installed, or have the NEC DVD/CD burner and the DVD ROM drive. I will be burning both DVDs and audio CDs. I thought there might be some advantage in DVD burning to have both DVD drives installed. Using NERO sortware, DVDShrink, etc. Thanks, Mark
I agree your DVD burner will do CD's and having the DVD Rom lets you rip with one and the burn with the other, gives your burner a rest.
Let's make it unanimous, no need for 2 CD drives. As pointed out the ROM gives the more expensive burner a rest so it will last longer. You can read from the ROM to the Burner when necessary. So, unless the CD burner could read DVDs as well as the ROM drive, then it's time to pop the case again and put the ROM back.
I'm with the rest, ditch that cd-rw drive. It makes it a heck of a lot easier-less clicks- to back up dvds or cds. Dvd shrink and nero, insert original in dvd-rom,insert blank,3 or 4 clicks and bam,dvd backup without waiting for a disc to kick out and inserting a blank. Sweet!
