Hi, I have two DVD drives in my computer the first one is just a player and the second one is a writer. I seem to be experiencing some sort of problem and I'm not sure if it is the writer or the Nero 6 software. Below I have copied the error message. I can play DVDs and cds in both drives -- although for some reason they are not playing in Windows Media Player. Windows Media Player hasn't been responding. I used VLC Media Player. I was explaining the problem to my son last night and he said that he installed that on my computer because it plays anything. Boy, am I glad he did that. Not sure if the WMP is somehow linked to the DVD-Nero problem. Can someone please look over my error log from Nero and please explain to me what to do to fix this problem. Thanks! 1A20-0316-0010-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=?.?.?.?, size=30208 bytes, created 6/11/1997 7:01:02 PM ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 6:35:34 PM Nero API version: 6.6.0.18 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 18e Recorder: <DVDRW IDE 16X> Version: A07F - HA 3 TA 1 - 6.6.0.18 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 3 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800BB-53DKA0 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1200JB-22GVA0 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : JLMS XJ-HD166S atapi Port 3 ID 0 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : DVDRW IDE 16X atapi Port 3 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === JLMS XJ-HD166S D: CDRom0 DVDRW IDE 16X E: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 1022MB (1047276kB) Free physical memory: 407MB (417012kB) Memory in use : 60 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 6.5.2008 NeroAPI 7:42:25 PM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation started 7:42:25 PM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 7:42:25 PM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files sorted 7:42:25 PM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 7:42:25 PM #5 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 842 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 7:42:25 PM #6 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer DVDRW IDE 16X running 7:42:25 PM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 7:42:25 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 7:42:25 PM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 7:42:25 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2286127 (508:01.52, 4465MB) 7:42:25 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO 7:42:25 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: DVDRW IDE 16X, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. first off....... edit out your serial # ..... hit icon of pencil and paper in the right corner of your reply... then edit out at least the last 4 digits of your serial # starting with 1A20- you have 2 versions of Nero working here. The better version is 6.6.1.15a for Nero 6..... I suggest you: Update your Nero to version 6.6.1.15a Here's how: Before udating to 6.6.1.15a save the serial #, uninstall Nero, then use the cleaning tools : http://www.nero.com/eng/support-nero6-tools-utilities.html then do a registry clean up(free registry cleaner, CClean: http://www.ccleaner.com/download/downloadpage.aspx?1) and defrag...... then reboot! update to Nero 6.6.1.15a, install Package 1 and Package 2 only: http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero6-update.php reboot and you're good to go! Important:Do not install InCD! Packet writing utilities such as "InCD" are notorious for interfering with burn processes, as the way it works is to continually poll the burner to check for new media. This prevents the burn application gaining exclusive access to the burner, and sense code errors will happen - every time. Get rid of all packet writing utilities. They are more trouble than they are worth. and you do have InCD installed! don't reinstall it when you reinstall Nero! also I would use better media. You're using CMC MAG disks...crappy media! Stick with the MIJ rule (Made In Japan). Look for the MIJ on the label of the box of spindle (Taiyo Yuden, Sony, Maxell, and some Fuji)... the only exception to this rule is Verbatim, which is top notch media but made in Taiwan/Singapore and the only non MIJs I will use. using too much memory .... shut off all unnecessary programs running in the background, no internet while burning, and no multi tasking. Your DVD ROM has slipped into PIO mode and shut off your DMA... not good.... here's how to turn your DMA back on: http://winhlp.com/node/10 read about Alternate Method - Uninstalling Port should solve this problem.
and I forgot to mention...... make sure that WMP has all the media files checked off so it can play the DVD! hit TOOLS/OPTIONS/FILE TYPES/SELECT ALL
ASPI layer is corrupted, try this, version 4.71 from here - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm
IHoe Ahhh, first I'd like to thank you for telling me that was my serial number and I took care of that right away -- before work. I came home and have been following the directions to the letter and everything seemed to go smoothly. The first disk I tried to burn did not work out. I tried to make a data dvd and burn avi files, but the disk was unreadable. So then I tried to copy another disk and that seemed to work fine. I will have to try and copy the avi files again. I tried to install a newer version of Windows Media Player and it wouldn't complete the download, but brought me to a page with directions in cmd.exe. At first it didn't work and then after I straightened out the Nero and burned the disk, it started to just work. As far as I knew it never completed the download and then it was asking if I wanted a custom or express install! I figured if it's asking -- go for it. Thank you for your directions on selecting all media I checked and the new wmp is set correctly. My husband just finished watching My Cousin Vinny, the movie I burned. Thank you so much for your help.
the winaspi issue needs addressing, too. that's something I just skipped over and Gwendolin found it! Koodooes to Gwendolin!
Gwendolyn, What is this ASPI thing? Definition of: ASPI (Advanced SCSI Programming Interface) An interface specification developed by Adaptec, Inc., Milpitas, CA, that provides a common language between drivers and SCSI host adapters. Drivers written to the ASPI interface can access peripherals that reside on different versions of SCSI host adapter hardware. I went to that website in your link and one of the first things I read said: "gavinct 28 March 2006 13:04 for Adaptec ASPI v4.71.2 Voted 1 stars This caused my bios to not detect my hd's now i have no working system" I'm a little leary. And what if the same thing happens to my computer's BIOS that happened to gavinct? Can I recover from that? Thanks for your help.
are you burning dvds ok now? if yes dont worry on aspi but i think that case is a one off and prolly not to do with aspi? first time i heard that in 5 years in dvd stuff. re: WMP firewall can stop it from getting needed codecs via the net when a dvd is loaded to pc. updating wmp helps but dont stop it dialing home!
I have never heard of ASPI causing any problems , if so I would NOT recommend fixing it. I notice you had to go way back to March 2006 to find a complaint about it and who can be certain that it was in fact the ASPI that created the problem. Actually I just went to the link and this is what I found, 3 commenrs and you chose a negative one...dont worry about the 5 stars vote either side of that one...2 for and 1 against...go figure
Sorry Gwendolin, That is just my nature to pick up on the negative comment. I just wanted to be sure. Maybe if there were 10 positive and 1 negative, I would have discounted the negative right away. I did take everyone's advice and download and run the aspi file. It just unzipped into the adaptec\aspi folder. Nothing ran? Does that sound right? It just overwrote the files in that folder. If that was it, it was simple and I can't see how that could hurt anything too much -- such as the hard drive problem. Now I will try and burn some avi files again and see if this time they work. Thanks everyone for all your help and supporting comments.
no there is more you need to run it now, click this file aspiinst.exe it also has a checker file to see if its running ok! which is this file, aspichk.exe
Thanks Rotary. I ran aspiinst.exe and robooted. I checked and "aspi is properly installed and fully operational". Earlier today, I was able to burn avi files -- so I'm happy and very grateful to all of you who helped me get my machine running right. Thanks again, Roseann
I have a new problem that happened right after I fixed the Nero problem. It occurred to me today that they might be related. I can no longer use Microsoft Fax. All my files are now associated with Nero Photosnap Viewer. I can fix that by opening with Microsoft Picture and Fax Viewer ... but I can't figure out how to send and receive faxes anymore with Microsoft Fax. I tried to configure the fax program -- many times. I tried to reinstall MS Fax program. There must be something else that I can do, I just don't know what. I even tried to do a system restore. It was over a week ago that the Fax program last worked. It didn't help so I did a system restore undo. Any help in figuring out this problem will be appreciated.
right click on the fax, go to OPEN WITH, CHOOSE PROGRAM, tick the box, then click OK or uninstall nero viewer
