I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N230E and Matshita UJ-850S DVD drive. The drive used to work great. Then the problems began. It stopped reading discs and I was unable to put in programs on that used a CD or DVD. I can't even watch DVD movies. I can hear the drive working but it just won't recognize any disc. I have tried just about everything. I have uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. I even bought a replacement drive and it is doing the same thing when installed. I pulled a DVD drive from a friends computer, i wasn't the same drive but it would fit in my laptop, and it worked great. I was able to load and watch any disc I put in. The only problem with it was that the bezel that fits my computer does not fit that DVD drive. I know that might sound petty, but I like my computer to look like it did when I got it. The other problem is that the computer came with Vista and I got rid of that and put XP Pro on it. So the Sony website only gives me drivers for Vista. I am lost and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@sparksman I knew it was the drive when you said; Matshita. Matshita are the worst drive in my experience. You most likely can swap the outter tray. I have done it many times; It can be a pain so be gentle. Burn On, Russell
