DVD burner reads media as cd

    I have a HP 640 DVD RW when i put DVD-R blank disk in it reads it as a cd.
    I have another DVD RW in the same computer and it does the same thing.
    How do I get these to read the disk right so I can burn. Day before yesterday they were fine. I have no idea what has changed.

    Go to hardware manager and uninstall the secondary IDE controller then reboot your pc. see if that has fixed it.
