dvd burner speed

    can anyone plz tell me how i would check to see what speed i can burn on my dvd burner.
    I was told my problem "may" be the result that i am trying to burn dvd's 16x on a burner not campatible to do it as I checked an the dvd's i was useing which worked were 4x I am lost on this stuff plz help if u can.I did try to slow the burning/coping speed down an that didnt help.It just froze when it went to copy

    also I am burning from dvd recorder on tv an just coping from computer does this make a difference?
