Any time I put a blank disk into my Double Layer DVD burner, it turns it into a CD Rom. When I eject the disk it turns it back into a DVD Burner, fat lot of good that it does me. The only burning software I have on my system is a regular, legal, copy of Nero and DVD Fab Platinum. I have DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to backup my own media as well. It worked fine for a long long time, 1+ years...the last piece of software to be added was DVD Fab Platinum...but I didn't have any problems until at least a few months after that was installed. Anyone seen anything like this before?
just to add... it's an... HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GWA4164b I downloaded the last drivers from Dell they had posted on their site, and reloaded those...but that hasn't helped. Obviously it's a software issue with something taking over possession of the drive...but I don't know what. I've tried uninstalling all the software, but that seems to make no difference.
Hi. I'm having the same problem. the DVD rom on my Sony and LITEon used to work with the same media so that's not the problem. it's LITE on so should be good for most things. It has latest firmware ect but will revert to CD drive when a blank DVd is inserted... ? any help please ?
is It actually Turning into a Cd-Rom ( won't record or play DVD's or does it just say Model # xxxx or whatever CD-Rom when you insert a blank disc ? if it still Burns all your Media Correctly I would'nt worry if The Icon sayas CD-Rom or DVD Just enjoy !
Go into device manager,cd/dvd drives, locate that litey, double click, click driver tab, uninstall drivers, and reboot. Sometimes these drives get lost and need a simple uninstall drivers and rebooting. I've had it happen a couple times.
Thanks.. sorted it now - uninstalled nero.. cleared the reg. uninstalled the Disk drivers and rebooted. reinstalled nero. ran nero disk info. Back in business.. thanks people
