    Hello...
I have a QSI DVD+-RW SDW-082 driver on my laptop. It has never worked for me. It will read, and record CDs, it will read, and play DVDs, but when it comes to burning DVDs, it goes haywire.
I've used four different types of blanks DVDs, so I don't think that's the problem. The problem is very simple...the solution doesn't seem to be.
When I go into My Computer the drives shows as "DVD -RW drive (E:)" with a picture of a blank CD/DVD on top of a drive, but as soon as a blank DVD (doesn't matter if it's + or -, R or RW), the driver changes to CD drive (E:) with a picture of a Disc with the inscription of DVD-R (doesn't matter which DVD blank I insert, the pictures always shows DVD-R).
The driver then reads this disc as a CD, making it impossible to burn any video in here.
Any help wil be appreciated as I've been strugling with this problem for six months with no results from anywhere (support from microsoft, Gateway, Dell....ha! not one of them can fix this...why me?)

    Thanks

Go to your control center and find the XP view then look for your DVD uninstall the driver and restart your computer now go back to the same point and update your driver if this does not work use an external hardrive to store the files you want to keep and restore your computer to factory if you can not find the recovery disc hit F2 or F10 when the windows icon displays and select restore factory settings if all else fails buy a new burner
