Hi i have a Sony Dru-710 and was very please with it so i decided to buy another one. It is a Sony Dru-810A it wasnt working very well, sometimes it read the media and sometimes it didn't.

Anyways, now i have a new pc. And The Dru-810A doesn't work at all. It is recognised in hardware manager but as soon as i put any kind of media in it, it doesn't do anything. I tried movies, software discs, music cds, blank cds blank dvds. None of them re detected.

My other dvd burner though work perfectly fine.

Can someone help me with htis little problem.

    thanks.

The only thing that comes to my mind to try and fix this problem. Have you tried updating the firmware on the drive in question? You can try these two websites for firmware updates for your drive.

    The Firmware Page
    http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php

    and

    The Dangerous Brothers

I hope this all helps :)

In Device Manager, under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, is it running in PIO Mode or Ultra DMA Mode 2? It should be the latter.

See if you can manually change it to DMA mode. If you can't right click on the secondary controller, and uninstall it. Reboot the computer, and see if it is running in Ultra DMA Mode 2. If not, open your case, pull out that burner, pull off the jumper, just in case you need it for future use, toss the drive in the garbage, and get a new one.

One other thing to try first is a new 80 wire/40 pin cable.

No im not getting any error codes, but i decided to do what GrandpaBW said about the garbage. But before that i figured i had nothing to loose if i tried returning it.(had it for 4 months lol) and they said they would take it back if i pay the difference with the new one.

So thanks to everyone that tried to help.
