I have a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-840S on my laptop, and I was burning fine, but then today I tried backing up a DVD and it began to burn but then it just stopped and gave me an error. I don't have the log, and I have no idea what it said. But then I try using Apollo DVD to burn, cos I just got rid of Nero, and it also gives me an error. I've reinstalled the ASPI stuff over again, but everytime i put in a blank DVD+R and windows just says "CD Drive" and it won't load or anything. I try to see in DVD Decrypter if it reads it, and it shows it as a blank DVD+R, but Windows won't detect it. what should i do?

Go to the device manager, and see if your burner is listed there. If it is, right click on it, then click on Uninstall. After it uninstalls, reboot. Windows should detect new hardware, and install new driver for it.
This works a lot, but not always!
Good luck! Let us know how it goes..........

it worked! well, when I pop in a dvd+rw it didn't really read it as a dvd+rw, but I used Divx2DVD and it worked, so... I guess it's sorta fixed... or something. Thanks for the advice, though!

Unless you feel like you really [bold]need[/bold] to use RW discs, I wouldn't mess with them. They cost more, and they take a while to erase, for reuse. Regular +R and -R discs are cheap enough to just use another one, instaed of messing with RW's. That's how I feel about it anyway....
    Good luck!

Oh yea, I agree with ya. But a friend of mine just randomly gave me 5 +RWs for no reason, so that's what I tested my burner with, cos I'm out of regular +Rs or -Rs. Hopefully when I try using those it'll work... if not, you'll see me again here.

So I'm back, meaning that my DVD burner isn't actually fixed. I started burning some files into one of the DVD+RWs I had, and not even halfway through, the process was cancelled and it didn't fully burn. I used Nero 6 Rom to do it. I saved the log, maybe one of you gurus can tell me what the heck happened:

    Glad it worked........

Edit out the serial number. It starts out 1A21-xxxx-xxxx
Someone may get it and use it.
