DVD Burner Won't Work After Firmware Upgrade.

I have a Lite-ON DVDRW SOHW-16735 and it was working good. The only problem I had it would'nt burn to DVD+R Disk.

I read about firmware upgrade, so I tried it and that was the wrong thing to do. The firmware was [JS05] then I upgraded to [BSOS] and after that my computer will not notice that the burner is even there and the green lite just keeps blinking.

I'm running Windows 98SE and like I said it worked good all but the DVD+R disk until I upgraded the firmware.

Could anyone Please Help me with this???

    Thank's A Million...

well, from what i can tell, your particular Lite-on drive SOHW-1673S the lastest OFFICIAL firmware revision is actually JSOC- DR16JS0C.zip Windows 612 KB 2005/08/08 Match more media (JS0C) it was just released LAST month, so it is very recent...

    found here:

    http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English... rw.asp?Flag=1&Item=DR16JS0C&Model=SHOW-1673S

apparently you tried to "cross-flash" to a different firmware, the [BSOS] is the firmware that I currently have on my Liteon 1633S drive, i don't know why you would cross flash DOWN to a lower model? i didn't even know it was possible to be honest with you...flashing a drive DOWN 2 models?

houston we have a problem here...

try flashing your drive again with the current latest one i linked you above...see if that remedies your problem...

actually, it's NOT the wrong thing to do, it's just that you DID IT WRONG~ :) you need to make sure you are FLASHING the correct firmware onto your specific make and model of your drive, unless you are VERY good at cross-flashing and familiar with using modified firmware...

to be honest with you i'm surprised your drive even still works...if i am reading your post correctly, you flashed a 1673S drive with a 1633S drives firmware....successfully??? i'm VERY surprised it even went through and didn't give you a "unrecognized drive" error~

give my suggestion a go, i HOPE you will be able to flash it correctly, firmware is DRIVE DEPENDENT, meaning each firmware is specifically designed for specific makes and models of drives/burners, you cannot flash for example a Plextor drive with a Liteon firmware, etc. etc.

post back if it works for ya~ if not, i will help you with an alternate route to your issue.

    @elliott

takes a bit of time to get "good" at it~ :) i'm usually VERY detailed in helping others on here, perhaps follow my footsteps as often times, "1-liners" such as your response above, are frowned upon here at AfterDawn~ :)

lot of people (me included) don't give ANY respect to people that don't really do any "real helping" and just give the "1-liners" that i mentioned earlier to boost up their post count...as one of the moderators here said in the past, if you CAN't contribute ANYTHING useful to the thread, don't even bother to post~

i personally frown upon and give NO respect to people that post just to "boost their post count" and make it to the "next level" of status here on AfterDawn. i'm not directing this at YOU, don't get me wrong, i've read some of your other posts and you did offer some good information, but, your first comment to steve37 is completely useless, he comes here as a newbie to ask a question and hopefully find some answers to his troubles...to tell him to contact customer support? how does THAT help him in ANY way?

that's like saying someone goes to a mechanic with an engine check light ON in their car and the mechanic replies, "go buy a new car"...see what i mean?

well, im not here to judge you or anything, but a bit of advice, when you post, offer some assistance in some shape/way/or form; don't be "mr. obvious" and say something that a 5 year old would know as common sense.

AfterDawn is NOT a chat forum and personally, i am sick and tired of SOME of these newbies that come here and post stupid useless crap just to boost their post count and gain a higher status.

as you can see by MY reply, i actually did some research for steve37 and found his drive, his firmware and then made a suggestion...try it sometime, we're here to HELP others with their tech. issues, not to belittle them for asking a question~ :)

    good day to you~

steve37, let me know if you need any further assistance, i will walk you through until the end...

just trying to help you out elliott, consider it "constructive criticism", i am NOT singling you out or anything like that, just a word of advice if you want to earn the respect of the other members here~ :)

since this last reply, you have DEFINITELY earned MY respect, if that means anything to you~ hehe

keep the good information coming and i'm glad to see that you have "seen the light", good luck...and as ddp would say, teach and learn~ :)

    have a good one~

I have a very similar problem except i flashed the liteon ltr-53346s with the wrong firmware. Unfortantly I am unable to reflash it with the correct one because my computer does not recognize the drive either. I can figure out how to flash a drive the computer no longer detects. Any help would be appreciated.
