    hi there,
i just bought 2 new packs of discs - fuji and tdk and when I try to burn onto the disc I get an error that the media is bad. I tried at least 10 of the discs and nothing happens. This happened months ago and I updated my firmware to 1.0c. i have a tdk 0404n burner. also, after i got the error on the new discs, i tried one of the old ones and it burned perfectly. i have looked and have not found a newer firmware than 1.0c. please help. i am not very good with this stuff.

using better media is the key! TDK and Fuji are second rate at best unless Fuji is made in Japan! That's the rule...... use the media Made in Japan. Verbatim is top notch media and made in Taiwan and the only exception to the MIJ rule!

the next thing is to understand your burner. Your firmware is up to date but still old....... it's over a year now..... and newer media is being used. so even if you used the Fuji and TDK disk before doesn't mean that the newer Fuji and TDK disk will work! check the speeds of the disks.
this could happen because you went from an 8x disk to a 16x disk and your burner is having a problem with it! this may not be the cause of your problem but the support for your drive hasn't been updated for year so if you have an old drive maybe it's time for a new one!

did a little bit more research and found out that your drive is at least 3 yrs old and it's a rebadged NEC 1300A drive. the firmware update, 1.0c , won't do Dual Layer disks. So if you're trying to burn a DL disk..... forgetaboutit.
