Ok I am a complete newbie. I have a couple of AVI video files and I know that I have to convert and author them before I can burn them to disk. So I purchase Cucusoft Converter 7.07 Pro which converts, authors and has a burning engine built in. Since this is my first time burning I used a +RW disk to see if I done so correctly and it burned at 16x and said it was burned successfully but when I went back to play disk on computer it claim disk was empty. After cucusoft burn drive didn't even register disk.

So I use Nero burn and read the guides from here but I don't see it being as easy as the guides on here. I open dvd burning folder and Nero Express 3 comes up. My only option I seem to have is "Make my own DVD Video". I had to create menus and chapters which a lot of trial and error I think I got it right.

Now the problem is when I went to burn with Nero Express burn it seems to be transcoding and burning so it says that it will take about 1 hour and 13 minutes to complete. That doesn't seem to make since. Why is Nero Burn transcoding? I thought file was already ready to just burn? Am I doing something run?

I thought after you convert files to dvd-video and author I could just burn with a burn engine and depending on speed that I burn at, it should take atleast less than 20 minutes. What am I doing wrong?

Something strange happen. I decided to burn the converted dvd-video file to dvd-r 8x disk and used cucusoft burner. I burned disk in about 11minutes and tried to see if disk would play so I tried to open it with and play with VLC player but it said no disk in drive. When I go to my computer and then click on drive that disk is in it will say DVD-ROM but when I click on it the following folder is empty.

When I open and then close file a windows folder will open and ask me what to do with "Blank CD". So I was feeling very discouraged. I have NEC 3550A which is great for disk because I know tons of people who only use this drive for making bootable disks and ps2 and Xbox game disks.
I love this drive for because it burns very cheap GQ cd-r disks and plays in any cd player.

Well let me get back to my original statement. So after feeling so discouraged and that I just wasted a pretty good RiData 8x DVD-R disk I decided to put into my standalone dvd player. Well at first loaded for almost 2 minutes so I was sure it was a dud and then it started to play. So I guess after using Cucusoft coverter 7.07 pro to burn dvd I will have to use my consumer dvd player to make sure disk is playable.

I have to say that I like Cucusoft Converter 7.07 Pro. Doesn't seem to take long converting and authoring AVI to DVD-Video but depends on file size. DVD's come out looking great. Not really grainy or visible resolution loss from AVI to DVD to me.

Ok still have an issue with Cucusoft Converter pro 7.07 and Nero burn.
First I burned disk with cucusoft builtin burning software but it burns at disk rated speed and I am afraid that this may be the reason why my back up copy disk doesn't play in my friends Magnavox or my sisters chinese branded drive.

I am not using Nero because you have to author disk when my dvd-video is already authored by Cucusoft and I can't seem be able to disable this option on Nero. I would prefer to use Nero because I love to create the menu's with Nero.

I also have cheap media. Yes I know I should use Sony disks made in Japan, or Verbatim or Tayo disks but I have these that I paid for and I am not just going to throw them away. Plus I have played my friends movies on my dvd player made on even cheaper dvd-+r disk.

I have Legacy 8x DVD-R GSC003 and I have Ri-Tek Ri-Data 16x dvd+r disks as well. So what can I do to improve compatability across various dvd standalone players. Which is more compatiable with more disk players - or +R disks?
