Hi all. Mac newbie here. Just got the Macbook
I have had PCs in my life for years and I'm looking to backup my new dvds. It was easy with my PC...I just used dvdshrink with nero.
I've read that the best way with mac is I need to use three programs. Mactheripper to rip it, dvd2one to compress it and then toast to burn. Is this the case?

is there any shareware or freeware that will take care of the whole process?

Pretty much of what you stated MTR, DVD2One, and toast is the best way.

The only reason why I have Windows on my mac is to use "Any DVD" with "Nero". I think using Nero is the best way. You can grab an OEM windows XP for $90 on newegg.com (OEM works the exact same way as a retail version, just much cheaper)

    Dont pay attention to cropa.

My buddy got an iBook about 2 weeks ago. Yea there's pro's and con's but the con's outweigh the pros. Lets admit it, other than the look and feel of the computer, PC has everything mac has.

Can't get viruses on mac? well... if you have a brain and know even a little about the internet, then you shouldnt get viruses on pc either.

And finally, if mac is so much better than pc why does almost every mac user have windows running with there mac? Do you see windows users running mac on their pc's? NO

    I'ts nice to have options.

"Can't get viruses on mac? well... if you have a brain and know even a little about the internet, then you shouldnt get viruses on pc either."

Guess a lot of people dont have brains.

Well no, Its pratically impossibe(not impossible) to use OSX on a PC.

If you dont like macs, then why are you on this forum??

MTR for ripping the DVD to your HD. Then you have several options:

    1. DVDImager (http://lonestar.utsa.edu/llee/applescript/dvdimager.html). Creates an image from a Video_TS folder that can be burned using Disk Utility (Aplications/Utilities).

    2. DVD2OneX 2. Compress and burn.

    3. DVDRemaster 3. Compress and burn.

    4. Toast 7. Compress and burn.

    5. PopCorn 2. Compress and burn.

    6. ffmpegX. Compress.

    7. Combination of the above methods.

    I use DVDRemaster 3 Pro.

PS. Cropa. You obviously know nothing about Macs so your opinion is totally worthless.

Okay so maybe some people are a little too passionate about their computers. I make a few comments and all these nerds are automatically attacking me. Maybe mac is better than pc for some things, but lets not deny the fact that pc's are more popular.

And with that said, obviously software designers are going to design for a market that has more demand.

Also, a large population of people are so used to windows that they don't want to bother getting used to another operating system when the one they have is just fine, so unless you want to convince millions of ppl how great mac is, fusk off.
