I bought $70 worth of dvd cases from effectuality.com and they friggin smell. it's a wierd smell like gun powder or something. i just bought a dvd set of Gantz and the dvd case had the same smell but it was very faint. the cases I got from effectuality smelled stronger. like if I hold a case a couple feet from my nose I can smell it. Is this normal? I'm kind unhappy about it and am thinking about just throwing it at in the garbage. I got all these different multi-disc cases that hold anywhere from 2 discs up to 10 discs and they friggin stink. Sorry, just needed to rant.

***picks up nearby case, and has a sniff*****

heh, yeah they do a bit when right up close.

    Around 6" away, I'm safe.

Can you smell them, like, quite a bit away from them?

yeah, it's kinda strong. i have all these various cases and I might throw them away. it would cost a lot to ship them back for a refund.

if you hold it 2-3 feet from your face, you can smell it. put your nose right up to it and it's really strong.

You got it bad then, ones I have ...need to be real close to them.

    The ones I've got hold 6,8 or 10 disc's.

@ $70 worth, you got a right to rant.

maxxjulie- Weird ! I've never run across this problem but then again I apparently have'nt bought the same case's either ! How long have you had them ? And is the smell still as strong as it was when you first opened the box? If the odor has weakend perhaps it will dissipate completely over time ? Other than that perhaps leaving them outside for a few days to air out as it were may help ! Or maybe putting a big box of baking soda in the box your storing them in would work (like people do woth their refrigerator ) Maybe chunking a bag of activated charcoal like they use for aquariums & in Icebox odor filters would work too ! I don't know if Briquettes would work at all or as good ? Then there is always the quick & dirty solution just spay'em with your choice of aftershave , cologne, room deodorizer or liquid incense to possible change the odor to something you atleast like assuming that any of theese are not plastic damaging compounds (TRY ONE CASE AS A TEST FIRST) That's about all I can think of for now my friend ! I'd hate to have to toss $70.00 in the trash . Perhaps writing the company you bought them from could shed light on the odor problem & possible solutions to it. perhaps not buy it's worth atleast an Email isn't it ? Good luck maxxjulie & hope you get it sorted out ! Ciao!

Darn it, You guys/gals got me sniffing my dvd cases now. LOL
This may lead to a new fetish?

    Here's my verdict:

    Full size/original/single dvd: No smell
Slim/full size black: Smells like turpentine
Slim/Full size clear double-memosux: No smell
Slim/memorex multi color full size: No smell
Slim/multi-color Office Max jewel cases: No smell.

My next batches, I'll smell them right after I unwrap them, LOL

    Break out the Massengil!

    don't be a snarf....or a grump...

    snarf - smells bicycle seats

    grump - smells toilet seats

you are a mump....you smell media....

the next logical move for you is snarf, nip this habit now before it gets out of hand

Just as movies are rated, we must now start giving products offensive odor ratings. I can see it now (light bulb goes off)...

This product is rated "R" for having a RANK odor.
This product is rated "PG" for having a PRETTY GROSS odor.
This product is rated "G" for having a GENTLE odor.

Seriously, if those cases smell bad, return them.

its funny that you mentioned that because a few years ago when I was in the military I had a random drug inspection in my apartment and the dog went straight for the movie collection (all dirties) which was kinda of jacked up because it was this fine female doing the inspection and she called me a freak then ask to borrow a few
