We all know , or have learned by/from experience that clean Media - be they CD/dvd- games movies ect.. are happy disc ! Just like the cows from California LOL! Dirty Disc usually don't play well and introduce filth, dirt , gunk take your pick into your burner or stand-alone recorder, Or dvd /cd player or drive . While you can clean your disc with many different things I've found 91% isopropyl alcohol does a really good job is really affordable and does'nt seem to leave anything ( deposits, minerals , lanolin ect.. behind ! the 70% common Isopropyl often has lanolin in it like hand lotion's do and this will leave residue on your disc - a quick check put some on a clean hand mirror and let it dry/evaporate if it leaves a film or greasy spot behind that's what would end up on your disc ! You can also use anything device wise for cleaning from a soft lint free cloth to battery or electric powered discman type cleaners/scratch removers ! I've had my experience with Radial cleaners. My first and best was a Scotch Brand that was originally sold as a CD Cleaner - It was box shaped and had the round / circular -or O shaped cleaning pad. It lasted me several years cleaning countless CD's and even More DVD's . Alas I literally worked it to death ( Wore it out ) I replaced that one with a Maxell Rotary Cleaner and a Kinyo ! the kinyo was cheaper but about the same quality as the maxell . Both of those units have the small bean or tap shoe tap shaped pad and although They do clean well I've found that the maxell often scratches your dvd's ! not always but once is too much right ! you don't want to cure one problem and cause another . My old Scotch brand cleaner did'nt do this . But until now I have'nt been able to find a manual rotary cleaner that was made like it ! ( with the Round O shaped Cleaning pad) I found it at Biglots store for $5.00+tax it is made by Discwasher/RCA so I assume that Discwasher makes it for RCA -It has both company's logos on it !! and it is mechanically the same or similar to the scotch unit I had perhaps being a little lighter weight ? and more Clamshell/rounded shaped than the scotch ! Biglots also sells the Kinyo cleaner for the same price and they look siimilar so if your out shopping for one of these make sure that it's the RCA/Dischwasher one and not the Kinyo ! $5.00 is a small investment to keep your media clean. And although I have'nt used my new unit yet I've always had good service from discwasher products in the past so I see no reason for that to change ! Sorry to run off at the keys but I thought the afterdawners would want to know about this deal ! and no I don't work for biglots , rca, or discwasher if enquiring minds want to know ! Just thought I'd pass it on ! Good luck & happy Shopping!
Hey Big......... Wassup? ) I shop at Biglots every so often. I usually buy my high gloss photo paper there, for printing my dvd covers. Most places here sells the high gloss 15-20 sheet packs, for about $12.99, and Biglots sells them for $4.99-$5.99. I have one of the Disc Dr. machines for cleaning. Sometimes it helps, and sometimes it doesn't. Now, when I find a movie at a pawn shop or flea market, that's scratched, I take it to a local pawn shop that cleans them for $1.99 each. They said that their machine cost $25,000, and it makes the discs look new. A friend asked me to take a ps2 game disc for him. The disc had a [bold]very bad[/bold] scatch on it. It came out looking and playing like brand new. Next time I find a good movie, that's been destroyed by the "dimples" press, when diving for cases, I'll take it to them, and have it repaired......... Glad you found what you were looking for. No more than I need it done, I'll let the pawn shop do mine for $1.99 each. Check your local pawn shops or game stores, and ask if they repair discs.
i work in a video store and we repair dammaged dvd"s and cd's i will give you a little heads up on what we use to fix the disks, the best stuff to use to clean disks that are not scratched but just have fingerprints and smudges, windex is the best for that and use a cotton rag but a real soft one, also for the disks that are real bad we use a high quality car wax, this wax will work with the cheep disk cleaners that you would find at walmart, biglots and so on, an yes some pawn shopes do have the the high quailty disk cleaning machines, the one that we have cost $ 35.000 this machine will clean 40 disks in 10 min, just load the machine and in about 30 sec you have a brand new disk, and we charge $1.00 per disk, also the whole dimple damage thing these disks are not reparable.
JVC- Checked the gamestores in the big city - not happening ! they don't do that & don't know who does ! They sell a kit for like about $8.00 or so which is probably just brasso in a small foil pouch ? I don't have too many scratched disc thankfully I try to be careful ! I just try to keep my disc & drives clean ! ( The usual gunk - fingerprints dust lint ect.. ) grandkids !! anyhow I 'm not sure even a commercial machine can undo the Dimple-ator of death disc destroyers damage but hey give it a shot and let us know eh! I mean if you can just pass them through the polisher/resurfacer and they're back to playing status kind of makes the whole dimple damage concept a worthless investment - I realize we are talking restoration here but for killing disc with sensitive data or embarrasing photos ect.. a shredder is better ! anyhow You might want to check Samsclub on the photo paper they often have several brands at nice prices ! I lucked out and caught a wad of photo phaper when they marked it down ! Right now it's burried under a towering pile of dvd media spindles so it's a little hard to get to but I'll move them soon !There is also a company called rubberdisc.com and they do disc/dvd/cd/game repair although their prices are a little higher than your pawn shop ! If they can fix it they don't charge you for it ! just a thought ! I did manage to reclaim a copy of 28days later from a BB dumpster that was scratched and froze /skipped - hello brasso ! it works fine now ! well thanks for the suggestions & all that Good luck and happy Pawn shopping !
JVC- sams - Royal BritesĀ® High Gloss Photo Paper - 150 ct= $18.66 or Royal BritesĀ® Matte Photo Paper - 200 ct @ $19.88 - prices may vary by your local sams but worth a check if your have a sams nearby
I went to a local printing company this morning, and bought 60 sheets of 8 1/2" x 11" glossy paper. They had to cut it down to 8 1/2" x 11" for me. The 60 sheets cost me $4.00.................. [bold]NEVERMIND------THE PAPER DOESN'T ACCEPT INK JET INK VERY WELL! IT LOOKED TERRIBLE! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY![/bold] The disc I mentioned, that they repaired, had a scratch that felt a lot deeper than the dimples felt, on those BB discs. It repaired perfectly. We'll see what happens. I'll have to try a dimpled disc, just to see for myself. I'm hard-headed............. )
