Hi, I'm new to dvd burning, and was wondering is it possible to make backup's of CSS encrypted dvd's, using Intervideo DVD Copy with AnyDVD running in the background? "Should" this work? Or will this not disable the copy protection? Also, what is the average time it takes to burn a dvd, from ripping it, to stripping css, to the actual burn? All help would be greatly appreciated before I start buying software!!! Thanks!
Yes, the combination of these two software products will work well together. The actual breaking the CSS on DVDs is almost instantaneous. Put the DVD into drive and by the time you get DVD copy up and running it is done. Project time will depend on several things. 1) your computer setup and how modern (fast) your CPU is 2) How fast your burner is 3) Whether the DVD you are copying is on a dual layer or single layer disk..in other words, if your DVD contains more data than can fit on your 4.7 blank DVD Copy will have to "compress" the contents FIRST before it burns. This means it will shrink the movie and place it on your computer's hard disk FIRST and then burn to disk from your HD. This extra step will take approximately 30 to 40 minuets. If it is smaller than 4.7 GB then DVD copy will burn straight from source DVD to your DVD blank which will take approximately 30 to 40 mins. In short it could take anywhere from 30 to 1 hour and 10 mins for a copy.
InterVideo is a nice program with great vid quality. Although not 'free', in this case it's money well spent if you want better vid quality. AnyDVD works good with it, but if you do a 'movie only' you will still end up with a useless menu (some people do like those things). You could also use DVD Decrypter (free) to rip, then open the resultant files in InterVideo. If you do movie files only in Decrypter, InterVideo will then produce a menu free, movie only, DVD if you so desire. Obviously you can do the whole disc if you like. You will also get top notch vid quality with InstanCopy 8 (it too needs a ripper though). IC8 is very versatile as far as deleteing certain items and still keeping the menus if you like. They were recently selling it for $29 at Pinnacle's site. Both have trial versions available and need no other programs for the final burn. You could also look into the free AnyDVD equivalent, DVD43. http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_rippers/dvd43.cfm
will Intervideo work with dvd43??? I tried but kept on getting this dvd is copyright protected. have anyone try??
1) I have been using <Intervideo DVD Copy 2 > and AnyDVD v3.6.11 to backup about 30 DVD movies with excellent results . Suddently, the same procedure produced coasters ( 6 so far !! ) . Now, I had to use Nero to burn the trancoded files at 2X to get good DVD copies. Apparently, <Intervideo DVD Copy 2 > has no option to to change the burning speed (i.e. its default speed seemed to be set at "max." ). 2) I just tried to back up "War and Peace" ( Russian version) by <Intervideo DVD Copy 2 > ( trancode only then burn by Nero) . The final product was really terrible when played in a DVD player: pixiated zones jumping all over the TV screen . I had to use the freeware DVD Shrink v3.1.7 to trancode then burn by Nero. This way, everything is O.K. Any comments on why these issues occurred ?
I have copied a number of DVD's with anydvd and copy 2 gold (intervideo) however after I am done burning, I can read them in my DVD player but my PC does not recognize the DVD anymore, neither the DVD/CD drive as the DVD burner drive. Any ideas on this?
"Intervideo DVD Copy 2 " was getting worse with copying DVD-9 over about 7 gigs ! The final DVDs got pixiated all over the place ! I had to redo these DVDs with "DVD Shrink v3.1.7" and this freeware really works, regardless of the Original DVD size ( i.e. I tried up to 8.3 gigs !! ) . Please report your experience if you have similar problems with "Intervideo DVD Copy 2 "
I have had nothing but success with DVD Copy2. Note that I have made my share of coasters...I have used SHRINK, Decrypter, Clone DVD, DVD Cloner, CloneAD, NERO, RecordNow,etc. I have seen very little difference between them when it comes to quality. Subjectively I really like the Intervideo product DVD Copy2. Most of my coasters seem to be related to 1/ differences in quality of the DVD Media 2/ poor match between burner and Media. Sometimes a cheap DVD+/-R works well with one burner and a reputable (ex: Ritek)brand does poorly with lots of pixelation towards the end with the same burner. I have even encountered differences with burners of the same brand, model and firmware...3/ firmware that is not up to date. Zooco: When you used Intervideo DVD Copy2, were you using it 'on the fly' (directly from DVD-ROM to DVD burner)? Or did you use 'Copy2' to put the film on your hard-drive first? If so, you should be able to check the copy on the hard drive for pixelation and break-up. My bet would be that the copy on the HD is perfect and that the pixelating occurs during the actual 'burn' and is probably NOT related to 'Copy2'. Let us know.
Well there seems to be some question as how well the latest version of AnyDVD works with InterVideo. Food for thought here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/82104
MysticE: yeah, I've been following that thread too. I have the latest version of AnyDVD running and have no problem with Intervideo Copy2. The SlySoft site vaguely addresses this issue a bit: "...a few incompatibilities with software from Pinnacle and Intervideo...". They do not specifically mention problems with Copy and Copy2 and on a different page they actually recommend using AnyDVD with different rippers, one of them being 'Intervideo DVDCopy'. Reading the Forum and looking at the myriad of problems/complaints that some of us have with just about any setup or combination of software programs and hardware, it is nor hard to understand that nothing works perfectly all the time and with everybody.
Siber & MysticE : Thank you for your kind comments. _ I always checked the .Vob files as ripped and trancoded by "Intervideo DVD Copy 2" before burning to DVD-RW or DVD-R . The pixelated problems occured with the .vob files !! _ As a result, it might be the due to AnyDVD v3.6.1.1 as suggested by MysticE . Or something to do with the size DVD movie ? Did you copy O.K. with a movie > 8.4 gigs , Siber ? _I plan check out MysticE's theory by reloading an older version of AnyDVD and see how it goes. _It is very frustrating using "Intervideo DVD Copy 2" now as I do not know when I can get a good DVD copy or a pixelated one ? For the time being, I have to use DVD Shrink 3.1.7 then Nero 6.3.1.10 to burn. However, I am burning inside after spending $$$ for "Intervideo DVD Copy 2" and AnyDVD and still have to use a freeware to copy movies!!
Zooco: I would be just as P..d of as you are. I really just recently started to use Intervideo DVD Copy2 and it has been great so far. I just bought 'The Last Samurai' DVD and made several copies on single DVD+R with different programs. Intervideo was extremely fast and the copy was just perfect. Another program (DVD Cloner) made a good copy but only recorded the Director's comment audio...Useless. This may be self-evident: I am sure you are not using other computer programs while transcoding DVD's. As Intervideo is the fastest program that I know, it probably is the most CPU intensive of them all. What puzzles me is that you made 30 excellent copies with Intervideo before the problems started. I don't have a clue. I probably would do what I always do when my computer starts to talk jibberish: defragment my drive, uninstall the software and do a fresh reinstall. The compression of 'Samurai' with just the movie and the English soundtrack is at about 68%. I couldn't really tell there was any compression. The absolute best -but also the slowest at 90 minutes - was 1clickDVDCopy ($39 -but available as a full-featured 15 day trial download)
Thanks, Siber for your insight. You might be right : I installed 6 different DVD copying programs for testing purposes . As each program installs its own driver , conflicts are inevitable among them. In the long run , your advice is a logical solution : clean up the HD and use just the best program . _ Do you have problems burning DVDs using the embedded burner in "Intervideo DVD copy 2 " ? In my case, I got a few coasters when using "Intervideo DVD copy 2 " and at about 85% to 90% writing completion. It seemed it set the writing speed at Max. speed of the installed DVD burner and did not allow for writing speed adjustment. _Currently, I stopped using "Intervideo DVD copy 2 " until the issue is resolved. I use DVD Shrink and burn with Nero v6.3.1.10 or CopyToDVD v3.0.6.15 at Max. speed . So far, it is working well : no more coasters . Best regards,
zooco, I'm just like you. I must be trying all of them. I have all the programs on an external hard drive and keep installing and uninstalling them on my internal drive. I don't know what the point is but it is fun. I have used Intervideo by itself mostly. Even though there is a lack of good controls to pick and choose soundtracks, 'bonus' programs, menus (Shrink is the best for that)I just want the basic movie + English soundtrack for most DVD's. I like the speed of the rip and even at 68% compression the quality has been excellent. Samurai in 12 minutes flat (Pentium4/3.0Ghz), couldn't tell the compression. With the initial rip to the HD in 12 minutes, I don't think there is any way to set the speed. It's all in the software and the CPU. With the subsequent burn, there is no control either and I guess it would be nice if you could lower it from 8x to 4X or even 1X. As you have the problem with the rip, I don't think this last adjustment would be of any help of course.
