Hello: I'm going to make this really short.
    1) I have a DVD movie saved to my hard drive (Used 1Click DVDCopy)
    2) I downloaded AnyDVD and CloneDVD
    3) I want to burn a copy of the original DVD
    4) Everything goes good as it's prepping to burn/write...
    5) I get a message telling me to 'insert a (re)writable media' into the drive (I got this from CopyToDVD and later from CloneDVD)

How do I fix/prevent this issue so I can have a stress-free burn?
    Thanks- Kegan

And thus we have another issue. identifier is listing all fields as 'Not Available'. The info on the discs themselves (which may not ever matter)is:

    Maxell DVD+R
    4.7GB
Up to 16x burn rate (I was burning at a lower speed; was told it would be better for the disc)

    Memorex DVD-RW
    4.7 GB
    2x burn rate
    (These are 'iffy' right)

And somewhere I had a Memorex DVD-R lying around I tried, assuming the specs were the same?

But if someone could help me with DVD Identifier, the problem could be better examined. Thanks, Kegan

Theres your problem the media you are using is the worst ever. Stay away from that media and go with either Ritek or Tayio Yuden and for Dual Layer burning go with Verbatim.

That's Memorex for all formats right? How about Maxell ,is that any better? I may go to Walmart tomorrow, I'll look for Verbatim (I think all they sell are the generic DVDs I listed above, though). Thanks for the help, I'll post again if anything worsens or doesn't work. Kegan

Ok. Let me clarify something... The brand name u see on the case is not nesscarrly the manifacturer that pressed the discs.

What you need to do is check the case for small print and in that print around the case it will tell you the actual manifacturer.

Ussually TDK bran name has Tayio Yuden as the manifacturer soo just make sure you read the small print.

The only case I have is a spindle rack for my Maxell DVDs. A slip of paper in the pack states the warranty is through Maxell USA. On the bottom of the spindle, there are patents listed for China and Hong Kong, but nothing listed for a maker (I am assuming the discs were made in one of those two countries). China and Taiwan are 'generally' sub-quality producers for DVDs right? I'm looking for a Made In Japan?

I don't agree with the statement
for usually TDK found in the stores are crappy CMC Mags, just like Memosux! The key word here is [bold]Made-In-Japan (MIJ)[/bold] and you can't go wrong. Verbatim is the only exception for they are made in Taiwan and are of top notch quality!

    now.....
does this mean you are having a problem with your disks being recognized by the computer/program? if so maybe you need a firmware update?! or does this mean you didn't insert blank media yet? if you need a firmware update go here:

If you have CopytoDVD then just go into your tools, settings and copytodvd settings and it will give you the make/model/fw of your drive.

Going to type this as it's read...
    1:0:0 - TSSTCorp CDW/DVD TS-H492A HP03 [E] (Idle).

If that's no good, I have an external DVD writer, whatever model came with my Nero 6 CD.

The fw on your burner is as current as there is, however it is almost a year old or better. Drive is probably not going to recognize 16x Maxells. Try some 8x media, are you having the same problems with the external or just your internal?

I haven't tried the external. I bought it for my Dell, which is dead at the moment, and I am currently at my grandmothers, using her Compaq. You are saying that the Compaq is recent, but I should update if possible? That's another problem, how do I know/check which DVD drive this is, so I get the correct update? I am going to Walmart later, I will look for 8x DVDs. If they don't have Verbatim, which I don't think they do, what else should I look for? Kegan

The fw for the internal TSST is as current as there is, and it is still old. This is an OEM drive from Compaq and the only way you can find out if there is any newer fw is to check out the Compaq site, they are the ones who would issue it and that is doubtful. You can always try the external drive on Grandma's puter and see if it will work. If my memory serves WalMart should carry Sony I don't think they carry Verbatim, at least mine doesn't. Just get a small pack to see if they work out, and try burning at 4x anything below maybe too slow. Sometimes burning too slow can be just as bad as too fast. Usually, half of the recommended write speed of the disk works fine.

Thanks. I'll check it out and let you know the results. If they carry Sony either (for some odd reason they never seem to have anything that I need desperately) would it be best to look for made in Japan DVDs?

All my WalMart has is Sony, Maxell or Memorex, and you don't want Memorex. I know Sams Club has Verbatim, but for some reason WalMart does not. I have bought the Maxell media from WalMart and never had any problems with it, you can always try the 8x if you want or just go with the Sony if they have it. WalMart is a little pricey for media you get much better deals and choice at other stores.

@Borhan9.......I wasn't referring to you..... I'm sorry if I came out too strong.... what I meant was that Kzm was going to Wallmart soooo I wanted to make sure that the TDK there is usually CMC crap.... to stay away from that. that's all.
