Since I have a new computer, my old version of Nero Vision Express won't work anymore.

I used to use NVE to create DVDs of video clips. I could create a DVD, edit the files, merge them, create a menu and burn a disc. Afterwards, I can copy the output file to an excel spreadsheet so that I can catalog the different episodes.

I have tried various free programs, but each has their limitations.

DVD Flick, AVC, Imgburn, DVD copy- either I can't make a menu, or there's a limit of 50 clips/project, or I can't merge the files, or I cannot export the playlist so that I can create an excel spreadsheet.

Can anyone recommend a good program, hopefully something freeware? Or maybe a combo of programs to do what I need to do?

    Thank you.

That program won't let me merge files. So I think I may have to use a combination of programs to do what I need.

I can use AVC (Any Video Converter) to download, clip, convert to DVD ready files and merge titles.

So.....once that is done, I need to

    Create Menu

Burn project (I can do this with AVC)

Printing Output file (the only output file in AVC is a txt file that summarizes the loading and burning steps, it doesn't show the content of the project)

Thank you for the recommendation- what version of Roxio Toast do you use? Is it a free program?

I have looked at DVD Styler- it's got a limitation, maybe not being able to merge files. I have tried that one too.

My Roxio Toast 11 Titanium‎ was purchased on Amazon. Nope it's not a freeware, but well worth the price.
It seems Toast 12 has been available for a while though but I don't want to upgrade for now.

I prefer WinX DVD Author for my streamed videos and camcorder videos burning.
I think this free DVD creator will satisfy your need, which allows you to author DVD menu, chapter menu, add your favorite music, pictures as background. Here is their official page to free download

OK I downloaded winxdvd author. The freeware version.

I can add the video files, then create a menu, but haven't gone as far as actually burning a dvd yet.

Limitations on this, I cannot "play" or "preview" anything in my compilation. Also, is there an "output" file that I can copy and paste into excel so that I can keep my catalog updated?

chrob61, I just tried my own videos and checked your problem.
    1. It enables you to preview the video in the process of creating menu. You can play and preview the video from the output DVD-folder, referring to following screenshot.

    2. After getting the output DVD-Folder, you can burn the file with the program at one go.

What a shame is that it has not support to output to the excel yet.
