Hi just wandering...now that Decrypter is no longer going to support new encryptions... What is the closest equivalent... Some say 1click dvd copy + dvd43...? or dvd cloner 2? Any thoughts...? Thanks.
DVDDecrypter is still the best ripper around, and it will remain so for sometime. If you are looking for alternatives you have DVDFabDecrypter which is free, but has had some trouble with Hitch. Also DVD43 is free and has had success with newer encryptions. There is AnyDVD from slysoft software and is 39.00 and updates regularly when new encryptions come out and for another 20.00 you can get CloneDVD2 which is a great encoder and burn package. I personally would not bother with DVDCloner2 it is a ripoff. Those are my recommendations
1clickdvd and dvd43 free combo decrypt and compress at once, they do not decrypt and backup uncompress like decrypter does. i have been using 1clickdvd because it's been doing a great job for me with ARCCOss and scratch discs lately.
Thanks for the info I think I will go with dd + anydvd combo...but my worry is ... will future drives be supported...? after all at some point all existing drives will wear out.
Decrypting does not require using an optical drive on your computer, just your hard drive. Decrypter's ability to burn may lessen as time goes by, however there are lots of burning programs available.
i have never tried to copy a dvd and anydvd could not kill the copyright protection.you have to pay for anydvd and it is constantly being upgraded to take care of new copyright protection scheems comeing out to include the most recent by sony.latest update 6 june version 5.2.7.2
I finally bought AnyDVD today. These folks are taking care of ArrcOS so I didn't mind sending them some $$. I bought it with CloneDVD as a package deal.
@fasfrank You will not regret your purchase, the programs are really good and so is the support, they try to stay on top of the new protection.
Thanks arniebear, I went to their website to take a look at the change logs and it really is clear that they are trying to stay ahead of the game. Another reason I wanted it was because Decrypter can use the ElbyCDIO interface and I wanted to try that and see how that works. Maybe that will keep Decrypter current for a while longer. I have not tried switching the I/O interfaces and have no idea what that actually does. Have you heard anything about this? Here is what the Decrypter log shows after switching: I 14:22:23 DVD Decrypter Version 3.5.4.0 started! I 14:22:23 Microsoft Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 1) I 14:22:23 Initialising SPTI... I 14:22:23 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 14:22:23 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD±RW! W 14:22:42 I/O Interface has been changed! I 14:22:43 Shutting down SPTI... I 14:22:43 Initialising ElbyCDIO... I 14:22:43 ELBYCDIO.DLL - Elaborate Bytes CDRTools - ElbyCDIO DLL - Version 5.1.0.2 I 14:22:43 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices... I 14:22:43 Found 1 DVD-ROM and 1 DVD±RW! What use this is I have no idea... If I'm running AnyDVD why would I need to decrypt in the first place? He did put that feature in so it must be good for something...
From past posts I read from LUK! he was not a great fan of SPTI and wanted the option of other interfaces, I do not use SPTI or Aspi I have the Patin-Couffin interface checked because it seems to work well with my drives, I have used the Elby and have had no problem with it. I did Hitch using Decrypter and did not have one problem, and that was before AnyDVD got out there fix. Decrypter is still my number one choice but AnyDVD gives me another option and I know it will be updated, maybe not the same day as a problem movie comes out but they usually have the fix done within a week.
I also have the patin-couffin interface in place with dvd43 running in the background with decrypter. As of this time, I have never had a problem, including Hitch. I always decrypt to a hd first.
@wbfconst Glad to hear I am not alone. I used DVDXcopy for a long time and it worked well on my computer, it just no longer could be updated. I figured since that program used Patin-Couffin as its interface and worked, that DVD Decrytper would do just as well and it has.
Step one, trash DVDDecrypter then purchase DVDFab Platinum and DVDIdle Pro. These are the only products you'll ever need since DVDFab Express and Gold are included in the Platinum package and yes free updates forever. Best of all, you will get MPEG2 instead of MPEG1 as your final result which always looks crisp and clean.
