    Hi,

I made a copy of a DVD using DVD Decrypter, but it won't play when I use Media Center or Windows Media Player. The only way it'll play is when I used Cyberlink's PowerDVD, but even then it'll just play the movie without any menus or any of the extras. How can I make a full blown copy of a DVD with all the bells & whistles and make it play in Media Center or Media Player or any other player for that matter?

Windows Media Player not playing it sounds right. The only one I know of that plays DVDs is media player 6, which also playes .ISO, .VOB.

I am not familiar with PowerDVD, but it should show menus. Maybe you burned the DVD and removed the Menus. Did you also use DVD Shrink? If so, you can only have menus in Full Disc Backup Mode (NOT Re-author).

What I do is write an ISO to the HD first then burn the ISO. Open DVDD, the go to Mode=>ISO=>read. Now decrypt. If the disc is larger than 4.36 GB you will then need to compress it with something like DVD Shrink.

Open DVD Shrink then click on File=>Open Disc Image (or press ctrl+I). Make sure you are in Full-Disc backup mode. Then Compress menus and Extra Features as much as you can. For stuff like FBI Warnings, change it to still image. Click backup. Go to Quality settings and make sure "Deep Analysis" is checked. Also, make sure you set the output to "ISO" or ISO and burn with DVD Decrypter. Click ok and wait until it is finished compressing.

After that, if you selected burn with DVDD, it will automatically launch DVDD and burn the disc. If not, open DVDD, go to mode=>ISO=>Write. Set the speed to 4x. Begin the burn process and in about 14 minutes you will have a playable DVD with menus and Extras.

I have Media Player 10. I didn't use DVD Shrink. I use the double layer DVD+R discs and DVD Decrypter. I'll try it the way you showed me and see what happens. Thanks for the info. :)

OK, but for DL discs, skip DVD Shrink. Just use ISO Mode in Decrypter.

That's what I originally did. I used a double layer disc with DVD Decrypter and ISO Mode. It copied the movie, but not the extras (menus, chapter selection etc.) and I can only play it with Cyberlink's PowerDVD. I want to know how can I make a "full" copy of the movie with DVD Decrypter.

When you rip with dvddecrypter there is an option to rip "main movie files only". Sounds like you may accidentally have that checked, that's why you have no menu or extras. Also I don't believe wmp10 plays dvds standard. I don't know what MCE uses for dvd though. Powerdvd is fine.

So, how do I go about selecting all files? In the settings menu there are so many tabs and it's not straight forward.

If you did it in ISO Mode, it automatically copies the whole thing. I guess you could try in file mode.

Open DVD Decrypter and press Alt+M+F (you could also select it from Mode=>File). This will take you to file mode. Then press cntrl+A. This will select all the files. Take note of the destination foler and change it if you want. After that press the Decrypt button and wait.

When it finishes, you will need to open something like Nero. Always use Nero Burning Rom and NOT Nero Express. You are bound to make a mistake with express. When it opens make sure DVD is selected in the drop down box in the upper left hand corner of the "New Compilation" window. Then Select "DVD Video" and hit New.

This will take you to the browser screen. All you need to do is find the folder with the VIDEO_TS folder and drag it to Nero's VIDEO_TS folder. Press Ctrl+B (or the CD icon with the match) and this will take you to the burn window. Select the speed (4x is good), and then burn. Again, after 14 minutes or so, you will have a DVD.

If you want to check playback of the files before burning download a program called IFO Edit. It is not user friendly, but very powerful. Open it up and select "open" from the bottom left corner. Choose an IFO from the VIDEO_TS folder. WHen IFO Edit loads it, press DVD Play. This will similate a DVD Player. You can also do the same with a burned Disc.

Also, another method to check, is to open DVD Shrink. Load the Video files (or the burned disc or the ISO). After it is done, select the DVD Icon from the list which will also have the Movie's name. Then hit play. You can also browse the titles, extras, etc... if you want.
