I got this error and then upgraded the firmware to ND-3450A 103C from the 102B. It is a Nec DVD+-RW drive.

    Here is the error:

So what gives? This has only happened on a few DVDs while backing them up. They were 'Memoirs of a Geisha', Dave Chappelle Season 2 Bonus Disc, and 'Fun With Dick and Jane'....the latter is the current DVD giving the error.

I get an error while trying to use DVD Shrink also:

Are DVD just using new encryption techniques? The 'Fun With Dick and Jane' DVD is a dual FS/WS option on a single side of the disc. Would that setup up have something to do with it?

I am willing to try another program that is known to get past new encryption techniques, except for NERO. The last time I installed NERO my hard drive crashed since it conflicted big time with Sonic's DLA...THANKS DELL!!

...it's working...or at least it ripped the DVD...
...currently shrinking and Backing Up with DVD shrink...

So, what is the best universal ripper?

    I now have:
    DVD Shrink 3.2
DVD Decrypter - Latest before it met its untimely death?
    DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.7.6 (Updated 4/14/06)!!
    AnyDVD 5.9.5.6
    CloneDVD2 2.8.9.2

Will any one of these or a combination totally outperform others. I just like consistency and would like to just use one continuing operation instead of searching for a way around for every problem...

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter will not work with the newer dvds nowadays. Stick with AnyDVD or DVDFab.

I'm new to the DVD Fab, will it create an ISO so I can let the DVD Shrink become obsolete?

DVD Fab will just rip the files to VOB, in audio ts and video ts files, you can then use DVD shrink to burn an ISO or the full disk.
