I also backed up Hitch the other day. No problems at all, but I did find that my standar DVD Rom drive didn't like reading the disk, even though I set all my book-types to "DVD-ROM". Oh well, still played back fine in my Plextor burner as well as my older GE DVD Player! Thanks onece again to DVDD!!!!!
I am quite sad to hear this news about dvdd!!! But what really bothers me is why do we all sit around and complain why the powers of $$$ say it be so, and we basically say "OK" (with complainting for a few days to follow) and roll over and do nothing....????!!!!! How come we can record the exact same movies with our vcr's? Why haven't they been banned or encrypted? Food for thought....we could say FU to them all, quit buying dvd burners & movies, and regress back to the old technology of vcr's? Are we that dependenant on them? I think they would soon realize that the opposite is true!
some people can be burned up about all this nonsense about what is legal and what is not legal and get around to do what they want, how they want it and whenever they want it. You can't stop the big machine......they have the power...... when money counts that's when they pass laws to favor themselves. There's big money out there on these DVDs......regressing backwards is not an option. Now with the new HD DVds coming technology moves on! Soon all this nonsense about DVDs will be like the VCRs and be a thing of the past. So, in the near future, we won't have to have programs like DVDDecryter taken from us....... it will just be obsolete and new laws about the new technology will stop (or try to stop) everyone from copying their movies again! So what else is new? NOTHING! REVOLUTION...... GET REAL...... IT'S TOO HARD TO CHANGE AND GET EVERYONE BEHIND YOU TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Can it happen..... sure...... but how many times in history has it???? We are talking technology, and pollotics...it only benifits the rich.......... why do you think they allow us to buy the burners???? They know that a portion of people will make programs to run them and they know THEIR bottom line...... profits. It's the same old story! nothing will change. remember when TV used to be freeeeeee too? now it's cable and satalite........
This once-useful thread has morphed into Philosophy 101 and I shall not resist immersion in what may yet prove constructive. We all live in Republics' where we delegated our vote to a representative, who in turn balances what is best for us, with keeping his job. May I ask you gentlemen which one you have written to about this? None...? Not surprising. Neither have I. We are getting what we want and we have no intention of stopping it. DVDDecrypter and it's ilk will go on as long as "they" want it to. Obviously, if "they" wanted to stop this file-sharing and decrypting, they could do it with the push of a button (have Cisco block the URL's-no more updates). "They" have nothing to fear-we are too few to unemploy them or organize effectively against the $$ that feed them. They only use, and respond to, bully-tactics and so, until a philanthropic billionaire sets up a offshore production plant making and distributing free copies of each new epic, thereby cutting Hollywood's ill-gotten gains, all will continue as it is because "we" can't organize!
ok....... that's enough about politics....... because just like religion you can't argue about it...... it goes on and on with everyone having views and opinions about everything! so with that being said....... has anyone come up with a new ripping program to dethrone our leader DVDDecryter?
YEAH!!!! Now this is what I've been ranting about!!!!! I'm glad to see the forum going in this direction. This is where it can begin, if this outward thinking can continue. If we can all come to a single mind on the state of our country, then we can unite and make effective change. The whole idea of writting our congressman and actually making a change, I believe, is dead. If they agree with us, great, but will they stand up for what is right, or simply be the overpaid puppet they've always been? This issue goes far beyond fair use with burning technology... it's everywhere and in every facet of our lives. For the people by the people, I said before, is a dead term. We are as a collective voice muted, and it's our own faults. We've watched what happens to people who try to rise up and make changes. Yeah, they make changes, but they don't usually happen till they've been asassinated. Change needs to occur. A new declaration needs to be written that will benefit not only the powerful, but the powerless. Rules need to be changed and certain offices need to be closed. Paycuts need to be effective in positions of power, that way when someone takes the position, they're not taking it for the bucks, they're taking it for the people. I'm ranting and losing focus... need to think on this a while more.
@ihoe-You're right of course We're beating a dead horse. @xanthony-Point taken. @all-If you owned and were selling a program that did what LUK!'s beautiful, free program did, would it not be in your best interest to assist the authorities in shutting him down? It just seems strange that some decryption software's, which exists in the same vulnerable legal situation that his did...are still going. C'mon now...is it me?
The programs and companies that do what Decrypter did and are still operating and updating are in countries beyond the reach of those type laws. LUK was located in the wrong place at the wrong time. I hope we are lucky enough to have the other programs for a long time. We are not done yet. Jerry
True, true, there will be other programs that will come along it is inevitable and they will fill the void. At the time LUK! did his last update, he was questionned on why the changelog was so massive, and he stated he had his reasons. I believe his update was so huge because he knew what was coming and wanted everyone to be able to use it as long as possible. It has only been a few weeks since the Decrypter shutdown, I want to wait until the legal dust settles a little more and see what happens :~)
and while the dust settles....... LUK's Decrypter is still going strong! even when it won't do the new stuff {I'm sure eventually it will not work} I will still keep it for it's simplicity and accuracy with the old stuff! Or until they redo THE FULL COLLECTION OF DVDs out there and makes that program useless......... I know they won't! Costs prohibitive. Meanwhile keep on burning................
Kudos jerry 746. As long as there is a market, there will be individuals, or groups, that will provide needed services. Belonging to good sites, such as aD, will insure that the majority won't get ripped off, because those of us that do will immediatelly post our problems. The beauty of decrypter, is that it was free, if you were too frugal to donate. Be prepared to pay in the future. Keep in mind, that as long as discs are being made to play on stand alone players, the code encryption can be cracked. Nuff said Regards.
Some people think that AnyDVD will be out of the reach of the Macrovision and Sony's long arm of the law because it is from Antigua. While I am not a legal expert, I would think that with FTAA about to be implemented soon the ole USofA might force Caribbean Governments to act on digital piracy. While in the Caribbean it is not as bad as what I've read about in some Asian countries or even in UK (i.e. copying CDs and DVDs for sale), in my little island there are lots of small business movie rental shops that only offer copied DVDs. I for one would like to see the authorities clamp down on these places. Just another point I would like to make. Which is that the MPAA complain that the material on DVDs are their intellectual property and we have no claim to back it up, blah blah blah. But the fact is that movies are an amalgamation of people and sources (writers, directors, actors). Despite the huge salaries that some actors get, how many of these sources get revenue from DVD sales AND how could they possible loose revenue when we backup a DVD that we already purchased? I think that those big corporations should go after the real threat to them -> mass piracy; rather than the likes of LUK and us users who are the ones who give them their millions but are trying to preserve our investment.
so its illegal for me to back up my dvds? i think not. if they dont provide us with the means to back it up, then we have to get it from somewhere. by no means is that illegal.or maybe they could stop selling the burners.....
For anyone interested in creating PSL files for Decrypter in the future here is interesting reading info on the process, from Cynthia at Digital Digest http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=52146
Thank you arniebear. That was a fascinating read. It certainly helps in the process of elimination, however I am not sure it applies in all regions as I have my DVDD354 settings to her's by default and Closer ripped with nary a twiggle...and I even sat there waiting for one (!), knowing that "No Vulnerable Blocks" was going to rear it ugly head but it never did. Although I ripped in File mode this time which I almost never do, ISO is my standard...that's probably why. Shrink handled it fine too. I would suspect that the PSL needs may be unique to her region. What do you think is going on here? I think I'll try a rip in ISO and see what happens.
Looking in on the thread after being gone a while... It should have been renamed the Decrypter political forum. All those pages and all we've gotten is a lot of personal comments and a few statements to look elsewhere for a replacement. (Common sense dictates use it while you can and then move on.) Oh yes, a general agreement... the "powers that be" have shafted the little guy once again. What's new? As for me, I moved on before this happening. I got a retail decrypter because I liked the functions better than DVD Decrypter. I still use Decrypter though and will probably continue to do so for a while. (If LUK said not to use AnyDVD with DVDD, then I suspect he may have meant some older versions or he doesn't know the software, which isn't likely. I missed where he said it myself.) Since SlySoft is out of the reaches of Big Brother for now, I get regular updates. The app has consistently been updated for the newer encryptions in a matter of days at the longest (and it still works with Decrypter anytime I need to rip files to the HDD). This thread can go on, but it appears a waste of time and a lot of repetition. The title for this thread is misleading. DVD Decrypter development and support discontinued... Not gone and DVDD will probably be alive and well for some time. New encryption systems following June '05 will be it's only problems. Lot's of DVDs to work with before then. A year later and Shrink is still going strong. Since encryption doesn't affect burning, DVDD is still viable as a burner app. Not everyone is so dependent on a single piece of software. That's the beauty of software development and the internet... if one looks around, they're likely to find a decent alternative solution. The movie industry is like the kid putting a finger in the dike, I hope the analogy continues to hold true in the future. So far their actions have been laughable. Millions to try to stop software that won't be stopped. The only problem is we contribute to their war chest by our own desire for their products. That isn't likely to stop. So, it appears the silly games will continue. Have fun recording and posting to these forums, political and technical.
