Hello people I have a problem I recently just bought a LG GSA-4167b dvd writer, but it says its a 'DVD-RAM' or something which i dont think matters but yah and its updated with the latest firmware and its set on dma mode in second ide channel. I tried 2 different dvd medias 'Ritek G05 dvd-r' and 'SONY-D11 dvd+r'and still get the same results, I go to Iso Read and it reads the isos perfectly but when i go to write it fails in the frist few seconds in Nero it says "Invalid block address" and in DVD Decrypter it says "Invalid address for write". I know the dvd writer it self is fine because it can read dvds perfectly and I can burn image and audio on CDS and its brand new. I probably wasted like 10 dvds trying to make this work at low speeds and at max and searched everywhere alot of people had this same problem when I read the forums but still no answers so any ideas or ANYTHING would be helpful. This is the log in DVD Decrypter hopefully this helps: I 10:27:22 Operation Started! not sure but i may recall its a problem dvd? did you use anydvd while ripping? try loading the iso to dvd shrink and output to dvd decrypter to burn it! (in options of dvd shrink when hitting backup button)
Hey thanks for replying Rotary and no I didn't use AnyDVD while ripping it i just used dvd decrypter MODE>ISO READ andi just tried loading it into DVD Shrink and output to DVD Decrypter and same problem here i'll show you what i get BEFORE the log check this out Might be an aspi error
yo sorry the pic up there didnt work heres the link: http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/2953/untitled7ow.jpg
i/o errors are 99% it dont like the dics used... well if it loaded to an old app like dvd shrink you know files are good... could try a firmware upgrade to your drive?
Hey your probably right it might be the dvd media because my firmware is updated and everything but I have Ritek G05 and SONY D11 dvds and its SONY, isnt Sony like the best media out there and people say Ritek is pretty good too so i dont know any ideas about different medias?
I have the same problem with my LG-4167B (DL12)… It started out fine (used BenQ media). Then it started recording at slower speeds, now it stopped recording altogether on BenQ media… I have tried different media (Sony, Vebratim, 4COS…) half of the spindle ends up in the dumpster (Invalid block address…). I updated the firmware, changed IDE channels, Switched from master to slave to standalone… Nothing worked so far; I will be taking it back next week for repairs…
shit this is messed up.. cazman update me when u bring it in for repairs i wanan know whats going on im gonna prolly have to bring it in too.
i've come across a few posts about this problem but only when burning at 8x (i have the same problem with this drive myself). mine works perfectly at 4x on 'Verbatim TY' discs but just can't/won't do 8x, always fails with the same error "Invalid block address"
Hey Creeky where do you get those disc im confused i got a good brand of disc and the id was ones of memorex and it was so shitty how do i know that its not a fake my dvd burner doesnt work with RitekG05 and Sony D11 i need the best brand with the best disc id. Any suggestions man?
I don't think it’s the media that's the problem by itself... I used the same media (BenQ / Verbatim) on my BTC and LG 4082B and they worked perfectly at the maximum speeds allowed by the writers… It looks like the LG4167b has some problems in general… I mean what’s the use of buying a 16x writer if you can only write at 4x on most media. The weirdest thing is that my writer was writing BenQ –R 8x media at 8x and Verbatim 16x media at 12x for 3 months without 1 disc not completing a burn… Now I am lucky if I get 1 completed disc out of the writer…
@Cazman100 - maybe this'll get fixed in a newer firmware update (dunno when that'll be). (the reason i stumbled on your post at cdfreaks was cus i noticed there's a new firmware update for the 4163B and recognised your username from here). anyways, i wasted i think 2 maybe 3 discs when i had these problems so i just stick to 4x now. but i also really only use my 4163B so the 4167B is just a spare drive. but i still keep my eyes peeled for these problems with the 4167B.
Well I will let you guys know if the repairs solved the problem (will take a couple of weeks to get the drive back). Have anyone using the old firmware (dl11) reported the same problem, maybe it is firmware related...
i didn't burn anything under D11 as i updated to DL12 on the day of purchase/installation (saying that i can't remember if my drive shipped with DL10 or DL11 now). either way i always update firmware upon installing a new drive so don't know if older version(s) did this..
To those of you who making coasters, you might want to use DVD RWs till you work out the problem. That way you don't lose any media. I have the LG 2166D and have had no problems yet.
..or just do 'simulation burns' (in Nero) which will go thru the motions of a burn with a disc but not write to the disc and produces a burn log entry..
Hey creaky and everyone when i go to simulation or test mode it works fine but when i go to burn thats where the problem lies. BTW is 'tayao yuden' an actual brand or is it the name of the disc id because i cant find them in stores.
Taiyo Yuden is a brand name. I have never seen them in stores in LA or Texas. I am using a stack of TDKs that code out Taiyo Yudens. Supposedly the best.
