    Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me. I am having problems with dvd decrypter. I can read ok but writing is another story. I am trying to burn dl dvd's. I used bbmayo's guide for burning dual layer dvd's. I have a gateway computer 550gr. running windows xp pro. using plextor's 716a drive and verbatim dvd dl+r dvd's. the problem i am having is something like this:

    I/O Error!
    Device: [1:0:0] Plextor 716a 109 (E:) (ATA)

    ScsiStatus: 0x02
    Interpretation: Check Condition

    CDB: 2A 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 20 00
    Interpretation: Write (10)- Sectors 32-63

    Sense Area: 70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0A00 00 00 00 30 05 00 00 00 00
    Interpretation: boundary information

I copied and pasted elohassa's problem because it is similar to mine and I really cant remember what it said except I remember it said boundary information. It retries it about 20 times and then it comes out with this error. I updated the firmware on the drive, turned off all of the spyware and norton utilities. When it reads the info off of the dvd, it is ok but I have to reboot to write. cant figure that out. wasted about 9 dvd's already and am getting frustrated. I checked the dmas and they were correct. Am at a lost. any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

If you are using DL -R the drive is not liking this format, and is not able to write to the second layer. I have two Plex 716a's and have not had good luck with this format. Just use the +R format, this drive booktypes and will make it compatible to all players. There is more hassles writing to -R DL because of how the lead ins are done, that is why you are getting a boundary error, it does not like this format.

    Arniebear,

I am using verbatim dvd dl+r's as my media. I read where people say verbatim is the best media to use. I cant figure out why I am still getting this problem. Any other suggestions.

    Thanks

How fast are you burning, I do 2.4x with my Plex. What movie are you trying to do, did you rip in iso mode and then do iso write? Have you tried ImgBurn which is free and the updated version of the Decrypter burn engine? Do you have any other burning program?

    Arniebear,

I am burning at 2.4X. I am ripping at iso mode at 2X. I am trying to burn winter sonata a k-drama which is css encrypted. I tried img burn, nero, dvd shrink all with no luck. On my computer, I took off roxio, any dvd, clone dvd. I only have nero which I hardly use and dvd decrypter. When I used img burn, it gave me the same results. I took out my drive and put it into another computer thinking it was a problem with it. I put it in my fathers computer and it is still giving me the same results. We tried nero, dvd decrypter, dvd shrink on his. I have updated the firmware on the plextor. I am at a loss. It is very frustrating getting these errors. Any other suggestions?

    Thanks

I almost want to say there is a problem with this disk. Have you tried any of the slysoft products. You could try out CloneCD which will make a 1.1 copy i.e. it will do iso read and write. Or you can try CloneDVD which also does will with DL backups. With both you would need AnyDVD in the background to break the encryption. If you use CloneDVD try a direct copy or you can do a rip with AnyDVD and then use Clone. VSO's Blindwrite will also do a direct 1.1 and they do have a free trial of this program. I have used this with my Plex's and have had good results. Nero is not a good program to do DL backups in my estimation I have not had good results with this program.

    http://www.slysoft.com
    http://www.vso-software.fr/products/Blindwrite/blindwrite.php

Do you have any problems burning with this Plex other than this disk?

    @arniebear.
ive notice you say something about ripping in iso mode and then writing iso. is this with anydvd and clonedvd2 or something different?? if it is is this better than just putting the disk in and ripping to folder then burning with clone from that folder?

If you rip with AnyDVD you will get VOB files. If you use CloneDVD you can rip in iso mode to your HDD if you want to. CloneCD will rip in iso mode, also DVDDecrypter. When ripping in iso you get an exact image of the disk. Personally, I see no difference except I notice that my iso rips/burns will loop when played if doing movie only, whereas if ripped as VOB files and then do movie only they won't. Tis puzzling.

    @hoggie100

When trying to burn your iso with Decrypter you are opening your MDS file? hoggie100

You rip with CloneDVD2 all the time as long as you have AnyDVD in the background breaking the encryption, i.e. you choose you DVD VTS file and then tell it to go ahead and compress and burn. Clone rips this temporarily to your HDD and then burns. But instead you can tell it to rip to a file on your HDD and this can either be done in iso or vob format. Then you can choose what to do with it. If you tell it to do this in dvd9 format it will rip the file in its correct size, if you designate dvd5 it will then compress it and send it to your HDD. You can also do a direct disk copy of your disk if it is already the correct size by just directing your output to your DVD burner if you have two drives. You choose write existing data choose your dvd reader drive and then choose burner as you output.

If you want an ouput to as an iso file, this has to be done to your HDD, however you can write iso images with Clone that have already been created by other programs.

    Arniebear,

I tried anydvd with clone dvd. Still the same results. The dvd's I am trying to copy is a 6 disc collection. I have done most of them successfully. Usually, when it starts to rip, I get errors but when I keep trying it somehow starts to copy it. In BB Mayos' guide it says dvd decrypter is the easiest way to copy 1:1. I tried burning in vob, it did burn it but when I played it back in my dvd player, most of the menus did not work. I believe iso mode is the way to go unless I am trying to shrink, then vob so I can take out some of the menus. Now up to 12 coasters without a clue. I am guessing it has something to do with a program crash between two softwares. I degragmented my computer, turned off norton, spy sweeper, checked the dmas. When I check the system manager, it says nothing else is on. Cant figure out what is causing this problem.

You said you completed some successfully, does that mean they play okay? Is it then only one disk you are getting errors on, if it is during the rip stage, possibly the disk is damaged/dirty you can try cleaning it. If you are getting errors during your rip, what are they as these will transfer over and not give you a good burn.

    Arniebear,

The ones that I ripped, even with errors, plays ok. The menu screen comes up and everything. Although on some of them, while watching towards the end, it starts to glitch and freeze up for a second and then resume. I was thinking that the disk might be damaged but it is brand new with no fingerprints or smudges on the disk. Also, it cant be because I went through a lot of disks, meaning when I start to burn, it starts the lead in and then it keeps trying 20 times. This is the actually message:

If I keep trying, sometimes it will take and burn. But in every disk I try to burn, it always comes up with this error.

I notice you're using SPTI as your I/O interface, rather than ASPI. Over the years I've noticed (on these forums!) that it is generally recommended to use ASPI. You can change it at tools, settings, I/O, Interface. I've no idea if it'll help in any way, but .....

DVD Shrink can both input (CTRL-I) and output (Backup, Target Device, Select) ISO format files. I usually use DVD Decrypter to rip from DVD to PC; then DVD Shrink to strip out menus, shrink, etc., producing ISO output; finally I use Decrypter in ISO Write mode to burn my image to disc. Mind you, I haven't tried DL discs yet - I bought some but I'm afraid to use them!!!

Sorry to keep posting, but I've just noticed the drive you're reading from (J:) is FAT32 and DVD Decrypter gives a warning that it doesn't support filesizes >4G, however it then seems to proceed OK. Could this be an issue? Have you tried using the ISO rather than the MDS file?

Since you are using XP you really should reformat your drive so it is not FAT32 which is a leftover from Win98. This error is occurring because you are asking the drive to do something it does not want to. This drive should have not problems with doing DL or with making any kind of backups with good media. Here is a guide to convert to NTSC, which may solve some of your problems.

How to convert a FAT volume or a FAT32 volume to NTFS

***Note Although the chance of corruption or data loss during the conversion is minimal, we recommend that you perform a backup of the data on the volume that you want to convert before you start the conversion.***

To convert an existing FAT or FAT32 volume to NTFS, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.

    2. At the command prompt, type the following, where drive letter is the drive that you want to convert:
    convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs
For example, type the following command to convert drive E to NTFS:
convert e: /fs:ntfs (Replace "e:" with the drive letter you are converting)
Note If the operating system is on the drive that you are converting, you will be prompted to schedule the task when you restart the computer because the conversion cannot be completed while the operating system is running. When you are prompted, click YES.

    3. When you receive the following message at the command prompt, type the volume label of the drive that you are converting, and then press ENTER:
The type of the file system is FAT.
Enter the current volume label for drive drive letter

    4. When the conversion to NTFS is complete, you receive the following error message at the command prompt:
    Conversion complete

    5. Quit the command prompt.

As for Aspi, this is not really needed if you are using XP. SPTI is what is used by XP, Aspi is only necessary if you have a specific program that calls for it. Decrypter by design has the default at SPTI and that is what should be used.

If you are getting glitches and freezes at the end of the disk, this can be due to burning to close to the edge, this applies to DVD5 media. In this case reset your target size in Shrink to 4334.
