Ok I have the latest firmware from pioneer for my DVR-108 burner and I have the latest versions of DVD DECRYPTER and DVD SHRINK. Everything goes smoothly until it comes the time to burn my 16X Verbatim discs with DVD DECRYPTER. 1.it will not burn at 16X 2.the device buffer goes haywire and is very unstable.What I mean by that is the it will not stay in the 90's but instead will go from 90 to 30 to 15 I think you get what I'm saying here.Now the media comes out fine when I view it but why does it do this? I have firmware version 1.20 for my burner and these new Verbatim are supported by the firmware so what is the deal here? I don't want to lower the speed of the burning because if that's the case I would have just stuck to the 12X verbatim media instead.BTW they are Verbatim 16X +R. What can I do to fix the device buffer from going nuts?
Burning dvd movies at 16x is what's unstable. Your device buffer is I belive 2Mb, 16x burning is around 21-22Mb a second, what do you expect? Just because you're able to burn at 16x doesn't mean you should. Most burn movies at 4x, I burn at 8x, max.

Ok lets be adults about this and take a deep breath. @ poolpro I don't believe Ppower response was meant to be rude or derogatory. Even though your media can be burnt up to 16x that is not necessarily good for backing up movies. Most here who have been doing this for years will suggest max burn speed should not exceed 8x. personally I prefer to stick between 4x thru 6x for backups so it doesn't cause my buffer to fluxuate and possibly give me a bad burn. Anyway to make a long story short theres no need to burn video @ max speed. Slow it down a bit...also slower speeds will not wear your burner out so quick. If you have any other issues post back and someone will come along to try to assist you.
@poolpro I was in know way was tring to be rude. Some times reading typed words can come across rude or being short with someone. All I'm saying is Decrypter is a very very good program. You started by saying "DVD Decrypter unstable". What I'm saying is Decrypter itself isn't unstable but how you are using it is. My truck is very stable, the speedo shows 100MPH, but my truck wouldn't be stable at 100. You ask for help, I suggest something and you take offence. Or were you just looking for a "yes" man to agree with you, Decrypter is unstable?
poolpro, check yourself ... Nothing about Ppowers post was rude. And he's right ... just cause they make 16x burners and 16x media doesn't mean burning at 16x is best ... or will even work for that matter. For most burning at 8x will work, whereas 4x is probably the best. If you ignore this, the next thread you'll be making is "What's wrong with by backups? They skip and freeze" Also, keep up that attitude and you won't be here long.
Everybody just chill.I am not here to be picking on people.All I wanted to know is why is my device burner in DVDDECRYPTER going haywire.I have used Verbatim 12X DVD+R media and have never had a problem with the device buffer going nuts.Now that I am using 16X Verbatim DVD+R media it is doing that. I even lowered the speed to 12X and still it goes crazy.When I lower it to 8X everything goes smoothly.The thing that puzzles me is why does it do this with the 16X media and not the 12X media? I just wanted to know if there was a way to make the device buffer as smooth as possible burning at speeds of at least 12X with these 16X media discs.Once again I didn't mean to make any enemies on this site,I was just looking for some help.
No matter what write speed i set in DVD decrypter it still only writes at 0.5x on average. Is this normal or am i doing something wrong??
@poolpro, Hope ya got your answers, thread has strayed from answering you. Anyhow, I don't think they make 12x media. Do they? I thought it went from 2.4x to 4x to 8x to 16x media. And you really shouldn't burn at 16x, even though media is out there and the burners are suppose to support it. I think they just want you to buy more media, cause of all the coasters. I'm surprised your able to burn at 12x, not too many people are. I don't even burn past 8x with my Plextor 716 ... and it's in DMA 4 (whereas most burners are in DMA 2. So the transfer rate is much higher. And if you look at it your not saving much time by burning at 12x or 16x compared to 8x. I believe at 8x I can burn a 4.36GB file in about 12-14 minutes. so going to 12x-16 your saving what .... 10 minute burn at 12x and 8-9 minute burn at 16x? It's not worth it.
Hi creaky I tried that out and my secondary drive which is my DVD writer was set to Device 0 Device type: Auto detection Transfer mode: DMA if available Current transfer mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2 Device 1 Device type: Auto detection Transfer mode: DMA if available <==(This was set to PIO mode also) Current transfer modeIO Mode When i tried changing Device 1 Transfer mode to DMA i did notice a difference in write speed. I set it to write at 8x but it only wrote at 1.5x is this still wrong. Anyways im happy with the increase in write speed so thanks once again friend
@stephen13 - this is what it should look like - Device 0 Device type: Auto detection Transfer mode: DMA if available Current transfer mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5 - my hard drive Device 1 Device type: Auto detection Transfer mode: DMA if available Current transfer mode: Ultra DMA Mode 2 - presuming your hard drive is on Device 0, and the writer is on the other. What's happening is the drives are gonna run at the slowest speed, in your case PIO. Has it always been like this ?. If not, fixing DMA should get you sorted. If it's always been like this you may have the wrong ribbon cable for your drives. Look here - http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html (just check out the pictures and the explanation of the pictures). Persevere with fixing the DMA modes. Plus slow the burn speed to 4x as less chance of error even if DMA all set correctly.. Hope that helps..
That would be normal if you only have one HD. Your HD should be on your primary master IDE channel. If you don't have a second HD (ie. nothing on your primary slave), it will say PIO mode. You need to check your secondary IDE channel.
