Hi all, im sure this is an extremely newbish question but, I used dvdecryptor to decrypt something, which it did perfectly, but I am left with a scattering of VIDEO_TS files that need to be burned. One episode, from what I ripped fills up an entire disc. Clearly, I should be able to fit more than one episode on an entire blank dvd. Can someone tell me just how I can take all of these episodes from this season, and put them on one or two blanks? I know there is a way because i've downloaded entire seasons and put them on ONE data disc. Thanks in advance, - Jon
Let me follow up with, I am trying to fit these on a data disc, not a standard DVD-ROM that can be read by all standalone dvd players, that would require encoding. How can I get these fragmented, scattered files onto a data disc?
.ifo, .bup, and .vob files under Video_TS folder is standard DVD_VIDEO format. You do not need to encode those to play on stand-alone players. Though still you can back up those files as data files. Backup as data files; Basically typical archival compression(zip rar etc.) won’t compress much those files. So you should save as those are. Whether how many discs you need are up to the total size of your source files, though basically you need as many discs as your source discs. Any burning programs should do this task. Many experts here recommend ImgBurn (free) as burning software. Re-authoring or converting files; If you want to reduce the size of your files, you need to re-encode those video. You may keep in same DVD-VIDEO format or change to other media format. How much you can reduce is up to how much quality you want to keep. This encoding process takes some times. You may want to read this The Ultimate DVD backup resource thread. In that thread, Encoder and Trans-coder can reduce you’re your file size as DVD_VIDEO format. I do not know much about changing the format. It muse be depend on your purpose. Please provide little more information, so others can help.
You can't create a data disk with video files, only a DVD, you need to encode to another format such as avi/divx with another software program and then you will be able to create your SVCD or VCD. If you have downloaded before and dome this, it is because the files you got were already in this compressed format and that is why you could do this.
Thanks for the reply, but I am not trying to backup my files. I want to take these large files, which were ripped straight from DVD to my computer, and make them smaller. For example, when one downloads a TV series, each episode in the season may only be 350 MB, yet they are DVD-rips. My DVD-rip is over 4 gigs in size. I would like to encode them so that I can fit an entire season on 1 data disc. I also want to burn these files, to blank DVD, in Divx format (smallest possible). Hope that clears about any confusion. - Jon
I have Nerovision, and encoding and burning to Nero will enlarge the files by quite a bit. I am trying to burn these files as divx files, and on a data disc (so that I can fit as many of these episodes on the disc as possible)
You need a program that will convert to avi format, I do not know of one that is free...possibly Handbrake, which I have not used but is free. I use Xillisoft but it not a free program. http://handbrake.fr/
AutoGK is another free good program ( search Afterdawn for a guide). I like FairUse Wizard, free also.
Thanks for the responses guys, but I tried AutoGK at your reccomendation, and it blows. It converted my .ifo or .bup or .vob files, whatever they were, and after it consolidated the episodes it threw in a black screen between the end of the first episode for about 20 seconds, which threw the audio out of sync with the video. I have no idea why it did that. I suppose I will try FairUse Wizard next. Thanks though. - Jon
