Ok, I've read the faq and help files and still need a little help.

I am buring DVD's on my computer and they play fine on the PC, they dont play in the DVD player. I know from reading the faq's the most logical thing is the media I am using. However, I changed media to Maxell DVD+r and it doesnt play either. I was using the same media as I used before and those play fine in the same DVD player. This is why I am confused.

Here is some history, my DVD burner stopped buring DVD's and gave me a bunch of errors during the burn and wouldnt finish. I replaced the Drive with a Sony DR190U DVD burner. This is the drive I am having the problems with. I am using Nero and IMGTOOL Burn and have the same problem with either software. Also, my XBOX360 doesnt play my backups bured with this DVD burner any longer either.

I purchased a laptop with a DL burner and put Nero 9 and IMGTOOL on it and burned another DVD. It still doenst play in the DVD player.

I dont think its the DVD player since other backup DVD's that I burned with the same media still play fine on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

Please post the Nero burn log.
If you would like to try the best burning software there is, try ImgBurn and post the log here.

That's not really definitive proof. Different burners have different results with the same media... one size does not fit all.

As a quick test fire up Nero CD DVD Speed and do a Transfer Rate test on one of the burns. Ideally you want to see this:

No they are CMC MAG. There are very few actual makers. That means that you could buy Maxel, Memorex, Philips, and HP discs and still be using the same disc, CMC MAG. Usually looking for Made in Japan on the label is a good guide (except for Verbatim). If you are buying locally Verbatim is a good choice. But do try burning yours at 8X with ImgBurn as was suggested.

Ok, so when I used IMGBurn and did verify, the verification failed with an IO error.

However, it does play in the DVD ROM on the computer. Your thoughts?

I am now trying another file, just in case, that is a .img at 8x

Yes that was the suggestion. I asked for examples of better discs and made in japan was the suggestion.

    1. check for/try a firmware update for the Sony burner
    2. try using the DVD dash R format instead of the DVD plus R format or make sure you are booktyping the DVD plus Rs to DVD-ROM
    3. what software are you using to remove the copy protection?(we need your complete process) you may not be getting a clean rip.and theses are DVDs your backing up right? not downloaded avi files?
    4. laptop burners can be a problem backing up DVDs, we recommend using external burners with laptops.
    5. looks like its crapping out near the end of the disc set your target size smaller so its not burning to the very end of the disc
    6. do a nero quality scan and post it

Ok. I've fixed the logical error by tightening the cables, removing my dvd-rom and using just my dvd burner as the master drive. No more errors. However, I burned 3 different disks and neither still play in my DVD player. see the logs here:

I did this movie with no problems but I backed it up from the original disc. Try doing a movie that you didn't download. The files themselves might be bad.
Do you know what type of files are in this image file?

I understand that it could be the file, however, i've also tried with other files. Never had ANY problems until recently.

Yes, after I burned the DVD I can open it with DVD Shrink. I can even watch it in the window while reauthoring.
